Draft at Clybourn on the way to FoBAB. Pours a slightly hazy cola brown color with a small off white head. Tap @ GI Clybourn, pint glass: Deep ruby brown with beige head and good lace. The aroma has clove and banana from the weizen yeast along with roast, leather, tobacco, slight chocolate from the porter base. The taste has a nice earthy, nutty and roasted character along with some fruity and spicy tones. The mouthfeel is smooth and lively. Draft to taster at the 25th Anniversary Party. Looks good; a dark brown with a touch of mahogany woven in. Lacing is light beige. Smells and tastes malty with notes of chocolate and mild banana. Average on the palate. Not bad.

On tap: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy roast, peanuts, and light chocolate. It’s a dark brown with some orange highlights and a one finger beige head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose light-moderate dark chocolate and light banana. The finish has moderate roast, peanuts, and a touch of coffee. Tap at Goose Island, Wrigleyville, Chicago. Poured a clear dark brown with round bubbly off white head. The aroma is roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Flight pour on tap at Clybourn Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice well hazed brownish copper pour, some decent haze and near opaque middle is dark brown. Edges show glowing copper and brown, nice hues. A frothy brownish head dies to a decent layer, dies down to a small frothy film. Laces ok. Aromas are cocoa, a bit roasty and coffee driven with some toastiness, carmelization and mellow sweetness. Touch of banana, fruit ester is gentle. Some spiciness, yeast, but coffee and cocoa dominates well, almost a bit acrid. Initial toasty, good dark fruit, Tootsie roll and cocoa, some toffee and richer sweetness at times. The Hefe element really takes a backseat. Some toast, a bit of acrid, agressive coffee and richer toasty elements, dark cocoa. Assertive flavors. Middle is toasty, cocoa, and roast. Backend is a bit dry, toasty, some gentle Hefe driven fruit ester mixes into coffee, toast, roast. Some cocoa, some toast, roast as we get towards the finish. Really goes through the ringer. 2nd of sampler of 4, served in a surprising order, @ clybourn. "transcontinental hefeweizen-porter" in the menu. sumptuous aroma. chocolate more than banana. 2nd rating #1 of the day!
