4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 20, 2013 Fast dissipating head on a three year old barrel aged stout. Jet black pour. Nose of vanilla, whiskey, toffee taste is predominantly vanilla whiskey with dry bourbon notes on the sides of the palate. Finish is dry tannic and somewhat figgy fruity. Best vanilla barrel aged stout to date.
Aged 7 years, which is 2 years longer than recommended by the brewery. Tasted 3/6, so base my ratings on notes and memory. Pours very dark brown liquid with brown head. The aroma was filled with bourbon, roasted malt, dark chocolate and hints of vanilla. Taste is dry, low bitterness, dominated by bourbon and vanilla, supported by the roasted malts and dark chocolate. You almost caught some toasted coconut and toffee. Dry, long aftertaste with the same tastes, but vanilla even more prominent. Palate is oily with soft carbonation. If you ever have the chance to try this one out, I highly recommend it. One of the best brews I have ever tasted. gephross100 (943) - Bellaire, Texas, USA - MAY 21, 2017
Bottle thanks to Jonathan. Pours black with no head. Strong vanilla nose, oak, cocoa nibs. Viscous mouthfeel. The_Osprey (7998) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2017
February 2017 - Bottle share at CBC Islington for the Matteo Farewell tasting as ’Goose Island Bourbon County Stout - Vanilla Bourbon Barrel’, 2010 vintage. Big thanks to Cloin for this whale (which was apparently once a London shelf turd). Opaque black with a foamy brown head. Aroma is meaty bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, spicy and woody. Body is big and oily, tingly carbonation. Taste is coconut macroons, chocolate and vanilla, chocolate liqueur, earthy finish, syrupy sweet. Very intense. I like it but I don’t know how much I could drink. I didn’t notice any oxidation at all – just that ’meaty’ vibe I sometimes get from big sweet BBA stouts. Cheers cloin. 66cl bottle shared at my Farewell Tasting, London. 2010 vintage. Massive thanks to Colin for this one. It pours a deep dark brown color with a small brown head. Aroma is big boost bold juicy with liquid chocolate and vanilla, with bourbon backbone. Taste is sweet and bold, lightly boosty, some vanilla bourbon and some oxidised notes. Full bodied with good carbonation. Overall, still top notch WingmanWillis (333) - Surrey, ENGLAND - FEB 20, 2017

Aroma is sweet sticky malts, toffee, coconut, big sweet vanilla, oak. Flavour is composed of sweet layered malts, oak and vanilla, tangy plum, coconut, smooth and boozy Bourbon. bottle pour at kases. no aroma of vanilla at alll, very whiskey smelling. flavor is well balanced, no vanilla. very light palette. really smooth, just a tick off because of the loss of vanilla. kaser (6312) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 3, 2016
Had this at a bottle share. 22oz. Black as night with no head on this guy. Creamy and cocoa aroma, just a hint of vanilla surprisingly. Vanilla and a little bit marshmallow taste, not nearly as marshmallow as Vanilla Rye, I like this better, not as sweet. Smooth and no booze taste at all. Really good, liked this better than rare also. kathouse (1893) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - AUG 13, 2016
All I can say is wow. Perfectly balanced and right into my taste buds wheelhouse. Powerful vanilla and chocolate. Smooth and delicious. AdmiralVernon (1195) - SWEDEN - JUL 18, 2016
