COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editor’s Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. It’s essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

FROM NOTES: November 29, ’13 on draft into a snifter at the Black Friday event @ Kraftrwork, Philly. A: Bourbon and sweet malts mostly with some dark fruits and hints of bitter coffee. Some vanilla and oak also come through with a definite char. A: Pours a very dark almost black with a small head and not much lacing. T: Bourbon initially, with a syrupy sweetness followed by a roasted bitterness. Strong notes of oak, coffee, dark chocolate and bourbon with some faint black licorice notes. Sweetness and bourbon with strong alcohol burn in the finish. P: ULTRA thick and oily, with little carbonation with an extra long finish. O: IMO, there are better bourbon aged beers out there. That being said, this is a very good one, perhaps even one of the better ones. Slightly cloying with a high ABV makes this one a long sipper.

2016 vintage. Dark fruit with cherry dominance, very rich, molasses and delicate caramel mix and leave you with lovely coffee and raw coca finish

Rocznik 2013: Czekoladowe praliny z lekkim alkoholem, beczki nadaly szlachetny posmak bourbonu, duo tanicznosci i wanilii. Dosc slodkie z dobrze podkreslona lekko palona goryczka na srednim poziomie. Duzo kawy i lekkie utlenienie ze wzgledu na rocznik. Pelne i oleiste cialo zakleja podniebienie. Przepyszne i warte swoich pieniedzy.

Bottle courtesy of wombat23. 2015 vintage. Pours black from the bottle; the thin light brown head soon dissolves. Aroma is molasses, licorice, chocolate, and noticeable barrel. Taste is bittersweet, turning warmer, more alcoholic and increasingly bitter going into the finish. The taste of bourbon lingers long after the swill. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Rich, thick, clingy. And sticky. Overall a real slow-sipping treat. Great stuff.

Bardzo dobre piwo. Naprawdę fajna czekolada ciemna, kakao, trochę beczka, ale lekka, nie przeszkadza. Generalnie super piwo. RIS, któremu nic nie brakuje.

Puur zwart bier met mokkakleurige schuimkraag. Donker fruit, chocolade, koffie, eik, lichte roasttoets, bourbon. Een genot om te drinken. Heel erg zacht voor z’n abv. Vol en licht romig in de mond. Mooie afdronk. Topstout.

2013 vintage bottle shared at tasting. Black colour, small beige head. Strong aroma of pralines, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, toasted coconut, mild mocca. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter, rich dark chocolate, pralines, bourbon, vanilla, a hint of oak, coffee, light roasty, a bit warming finish with notes of wood and chocolate. Full body, oily, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Delicious - an essence of bourbon barrel aged imperial stout.

Great beer, a lot of vanilla, chocolate, pralines. The aroma is awesome. Carbonaton is a bit too high in my opinion.

(2016) Really nice and thick in the mouth. Great barrel (wood, vanilla and bourbon) aroma. Classic presence of alcohol in the throat. Worth the money.

12floz bottle 2012 vintage (BOD: 11.20.2012), paid about $20 for a four-pack at the time...Jet black in color with nary any head, such as it is BIG stout. Boozy bourbon and toffee aroma intimidates as much as it invites. Heavy on the palate meant for sipping with flavors of vanilla, toffee, hazelnut, and smooth roastedness imparted by the malts and bourbon barrel aging. This beer when I’ve had it is superb year in and year out. It ranks right up there with the very best BA imperial stouts available.
