"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editor’s Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. It’s essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Billowing smoke in the neck of the bottle when opened. Nice brown thinnish head which disappears quickly. Obviously the first whiff of the glass yeild smoke, bourbon and wood. The bourbon is definitely there but in the background. Burnt , chewy & meaty with tobacco Caramel and some cola. And the bourbon is restrained. Potent, delicious but in no way was it a brain rattler

2016 Świetne piwo. W aromacie bardzo intensywne. Dużo bourbonu w alkoholowej przyjemnej postaci, poza tym kawa, kawa, palone nuty, suszone owoce, żurawina. W smaku podobnie intensywnie, zdecydowanie wielowymiarowe. Na początku atakuje fajne ziarno kawy, później wanilia i mleczna czekolada, następnie migdały i kokos, a na koniec w kontrze pojawia się dużo drewna i lekkie rozgrzewanie.

500ml bottle (thanks martjoobolut). Pitch black color. No head. Sweet, caramel, toffee, alcohol, woody and oak in aroma. Caramel, roast, sweet, alcohol, vanilla, dark chocolate cake in taste. Roast, caramel, dark fruits in aftertaste. Sweet and caramel in aftertaste. Tad too sweet for me. Mellow mouthfeel. Very solid brew.

500ml bottle, thanks martjoobolut. Pours almost full black, small beige head as ring. Aroma of roast, sweet cocoa, chocolate, some woodyness. Taste is chocolatey, bourbon, some alcohol, woody. Full body, below average carbo. Nice imp stout, it's good, really, but worth the price?

suurjuust (3674) - ESTONIA - SEP 30, 2017

This is the best overall beer I have tasted. Puts other bourbon barrel aged stouts to shame. Powerful bourbon aroma and flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a near black from a tap with a head the color of coffee with too much cream. Nice oaky, roasted malt aroma, hints of charcoal and even salted caramel. Flavor is similarly complex with a fair amount of oak and some rich chocolate. Thick with a boozy burn. Very good beer.

2016 - 13.8%. Randomly got to taste this... thanks Iznogud, JFK1000, Maks & Sandi! Each. As I got a taste from each of their glasses for some reason. :D Anyway, black, still, no head when I got to it, but that wasn't immediately. Full aroma... heavy maltiness, figs, vanilla, bourbon. The taste... wow, silky, warming, bourbon barrel, vanilla, figs and a dose of cocoa, with slightly rough alcohol around the edges, I feel like this was still just a bit raw, even though it was genuinely elegant. Excellent beer, not 100% my style, but still - wow!

Bottle, 2016 vintage. Aroma is lots of bourbon and vanilla, also chocolate, warming alcohol, a bit of buckwheat honey. Pleasant creamy texture. Very good.
