COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that its a great cigar beer, but I havent yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editors Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. Its essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

bottled 10/12/2007. Pours dark as oil, entirely opaque, with practically nonexistent dark tan head. Strong bourbon odor with a hint of sweet coffee malts. The smell alone has more taste than most of the beers out there. Heaven. Amazingly smooth, with strong sweet bourbon tastes, matched with coffee, chocolate with just a hint vanilla woodiness. A smoky aftertaste. Overall, an incredible beer, by far one of, if not THE, most complex stout I have ever tasted. Well worth the hype.

[email protected], NYC, USA. Batch 2013. Strong aroma with licorice and bourbon. Pitch black color with small light beige head. Strong, balanced and very stylish taste with pungent combination of licorice and bourbon. Some coffee and slightly roasted malts. Wide taste spectrum and long aftertaste with licorice, malts and some bourbon. Strong, bit oily body and medium carbonation. Overall, nicely combines sweetness, roasted flavors and boozy twist of the bourbon. Could have slightly more malts, still world class.

Eerste indruk: Holy Fuck.

Oh my word! This is a heavy, thick concoction! If bourbon barrel ages stouts are your thing, THIS is going to rock your world. Just short of motor oil, this stout pulls every bit of flavor from the barrel. And at 14% is is likely to kick you in the legs too!

2015 edition consumes 2.2017 Opaque pour, tan foam. Aroma raisins, molasses. Tastes clean milky caramel. Some woodiness. Nice light carb. The abv is very smooth. Id think it was more like 9%. Respectable and good but I see little reason to try it twice.

Draft Half Pint at White Horse American Beer Festival 2010, Parsons Green, London in July 2010 - Pitch Black in colour. Viscous, syrupy. Very very Malty; roasty/burnt malts, lots of chocolate, lots of coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, charred oak, vanilla, smoke. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins. Hoppy; slightly spicy hops. Sweet roast malty, chocolate and coffee. Wonderfully warming. Alcohol very evident; not too surprisingly it is Bourbon. Great stuff. Truly, a Stunning Beer! (2010-07)
