4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 11, 2009 a nice 10W30 from greg hall!. aroma is of strong wood and booze. flavor is the same, with an indefinable that nears smoke. the mouthfeel was amazing, truly coated everything available to its silky goodness. the fact that i could even tolerate a beer this strong is a tribute to how amazing it is. furthermore, i would drink it again!
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2018 Dark fruit, coffee, chocolate and coffee liqueur on the nose. Palate so silly and beautiful. Big but worth resting on. Boom! beskid (523) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - MAR 21, 2018
2012 vintage bottle, thanks Mike! Aroma is crazy bourbon barrel, full of coconut, vanilla, wood, some dark chocolate, dark fruits. Taste is intense, sweet but not very, gives quite warming feeling. Smooth, not very dense, lots of chocolate, some coffee, dark fruits, bourbon, a tiny alcoholic note. tfontana (1258) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 17, 2018
Bottle pour into tulip glass from Whole Foods, Lynnfield (2017 vintage). Appearance is opaque black with nice sparkle at the sides of the glass, ephemeral reddish-light-brown head and no lacing. Aroma is dark fruit, dark chocolate, wood, subtle bourbon, roasted malt. Taste is richer dark chocolate than the aroma, dark fruit, bourbon, late roasted coffee. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with silky smooth texture, soft carbonation, pleasant alcohol warmth and sweet chocolatey, fruity finish. Overall, perhaps letting it age more would have given even more nuance (just couldn't wait), but nice richness and complexity and balance without going over the top in any direction. seehaferb23 (292) - - MAR 11, 2018
Delicious stout. The bourbon barrels really smooths it out. Great beer for such a big brewery. We love it! Cheers.

2017. Inky Black pour with a thin light brown head. Aroma is a huge blast of chocolate, bourbon, and molassess. Syrupy molasses and toasted caramel assault your tongue with a hint of smoke. Finish is alcoholic heat and sweetness. Oily thick mouthfeel perfectly appropriate for the beer. This is good.

Older vintages are head and shoulders better than newer years. At it's best, this beer is the standard by which all BA Imperial Stouts should be measured. peponi (2175) - Strzelce Wielkie, POLAND - MAR 5, 2018

Bottle, 2017 year version (14,1%). Thank you Justing for sharing this. Pours dark brown, almost black. Some light brown foam there but not too much. Soft toffee nose, light booze and toffee mixed, liquid chocolate with some vanilla. Taste is interestingly spicy, good heat and nice cocoa there. Bourbon vanilla and booze is strong and warming.
