COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editor’s Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. It’s essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Bottle I got from someone, I dont even remember who (I Think it was brandon (notalush) in secret santa) Thanks anyway, whoever you are! This is 08/05 release, so this is working on a little more than a year. So I have had many bourbon beers, and this one is slightly disappointing to me. Sure, its got the huge bourbon flavor and finish, but it doesnt have the nice balance and its so overwhelming flavors of bourbon that it is almost sickening to my stomach. Nose has some vanilla, chocolate, and coffee, but a large amount of alcohol. Taste is similar, with a huge burning sensation from the alcohol. I hear this beer is 20 dollars for 4, which is 5 dollars a whack, which it is not worth at all. This would be ok, if it wasnt so hot. I wanted to like this one, I really did, but I almost had trouble finishing it. Not really pleasing at all to me.

Vanilla, oak, smoked, chocolate, dark fruits, dates and raisins, dark malts, black with a thin beige head, full body, oily, low carbonation, an explosion of bourbon and hundreds of other sensations....there are many whales outhere but i think that this boy can still compete.

2017 was much better than 2016 well rounded and great mouthfeel only wish it was a little less boozy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2017 vintage. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of dark fruit, oak, chocolate, and smoke. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter.

2016 vintage. Massive, giant stout, no less potent or fierce for having fifteen months on the shelf, a glorious burst of chocolate syrup, caramel, anise, black cherry, currant, and oh so much bourbon. Sweet—more so than I’m usually willing to accept—yet the stark oak-and-hop bitterness never allows any cloyness to set in, while the bourbon never asserts itself to the point of overtaking every aspect of the beer. Lovely pint, probably why I’m going to be napping through the second half of the Super Bowl.

Aroma: Strong oxidation notes - dark fruit, maybe a very mild soy sauce, bourbon barrels, vanilla, wood, chocolate and cocoa, pretty sweet aroma, very very intensive. Appearance: BLack body, low head, creamy and brownish. Taste: Wow, that's something, so full and sweet, rich, some roasted bitter notes. Palate: A very long sweet finish, low carbonation, very high body.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2018 1/14/18 Had on draft at Whole Food Pub in Plymouth Meeting waiting on Abby at D&B. Dangerous looking jet black with a tiny brow head. Nose is big chocolate and cherry dark molasses malt. Smells big. Taste is very bourbon-like. Chocolate + dark fruit, caramel and vanilla with a noticeable alcohol presence. Sweet and not very bitter. Palate is medium with little carbonation. This is definitely a slow sipper. Overall, this is the biggest, most flavorful beer I’ve ever had and definitely both different and exceptional. Too much to have often, but wow! This is a hell of a beer.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2018 This a great imperial stout for sipping and just enjoying the deep rich flavors of bourbon barrel age stout beer. It's time to have a fire, sitback and enjoy a great beer that Americans makes.

2017 bottle bought in Australia, shared in Japan. Pours a deep olive brown, little highlights, next to no head. Sweet bourbon aroma, well pronounced but not overpowering, dark malts, vanilla, caramel, a little burnt note and light smoke. Really ace flavour with barrel oak and vanilla popping, plenty of sweet booze and caramel balanced with dry savoury malt notes. As it warms it reveals layer upon layer, really deep complex notes. Super smooth feel, almost flat, flavours spreading over the palate, no burn just warmth. No need to age this, it's perfect right now, ace balance and depth. Loved it.

This is hard to come by in New York's capital region... until the end of 2017 when it seemed everyone had it. Having known about this brew for some time, it did not disappoint. Even a friend who is not eager about craft brews simply gushed over its flavor. There's coffee, roasty, caramel, herbs, leather, earthy, raisin, smoke, vanilla, and the most wonderful mouthfeel ever.
