UPDATED: NOV 15, 2015 Sample at Rare Day. Aroma is much like regular, sweet malt, vanilla, nice. Appearance is black, brown head, thick. Taste is sweet malt, some booze, vanilla on the back end. Mocha head quickly dissipates.
Explosive malt, syrupy chocolate, hickory, decadent dark chocolate mousse cake. Tannins are low key, but add character/complexity. Not just mouth coating, but body numbing after a couple sips. Vanilla character shows no alcohol presence a fresh addition would show or especially an extract. From notes. Shared at a BCBS tasting put on by Brian Winters. Thanks! This was just amazing. Thick oily black pour with a dark khaki colored ring and no lace. The aroma is the only fault, just because you can pick up that this one is a little older. The natural vanilla is a bit faded, but I like it over the sweetness of the Vanilla Rye. I like it a bit better, but I do wish that the vanilla was a little more prominent. The other flavors are there. Molasses, dark roast, heavy dark fruit, and just a hint of faded vanilla bean. The flavor is where this makes up so much awesome ground. It’s like BCBS with a nice legit vanilla character. I will say that the smoothness is a lot better here than I was hoping. The mouth feel is thick and chewy with a great bourbon and vanilla character. The aftertaste is lingeringly vanilla booze with a hint of dark fruits and a touch of bourbon heat. Smell is bourbon, vanilla, and caramel. Tastes like a smoother version of BCBS with vanilla added. Thick and smooth.

Delikat och balanserad bourbon. Flytande mörk choklad. Alltid kul att dricka historia. Svaga lagringstoner som troligen inte vinner på längre lagring. Rund och len.

Aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate, milky chocolate, chocolate fudge, caramel, roast, lots of barrel notes; bourbon, oaky notes. Taste is sweet, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, roast, fudge, roasted coconut, vanilla, light licorice, oaky notes, dry finish. Damn, this is good! Pour that characteristic BCBS inky black, brown/reddish hue, alcohol lacing, with a small khaki head. Aroma on this bad boy has plenty of vanilla, slight coffee, some brownie/cake like goodness to it. Chocolate fudge, and surprisingly roasted considering the age. Yes, plenty of wood/oak and barrel. Taste is pretty sweet, with some very well balancing bitter notes. Medium - semi full bodied, with a semi flat carbonation, that sparkles ever so slightly on the tongue. Some faint oaky tannins somewhere in this.

Bottle @ Dangerous Bottleshare 11.0 Thanks to Motherbrother. Pitch black pour with tiny tan lacings. Nose has light soy, vanilla, light roast and caramel. Sample in a little snifter, from a 2010 bottle at the Leuven Innovation Beer Festival (25 V 2015). I am very glad to have been one of the few festival members to try the only bottle Goose Island brought along. OK, this is not much different from the "Vanilla Rye" version, yet the age of the bottle makes this 13.0% in alcohol edition somehow fuller bodied than the 14.2% edition. The barrels are different too: bourbon instead of whiskey. Yet the general flavours and taste are similar. Think of a stout with a clear sugar and vanilla balance. Add some chocolate and even caramel flavours, and you have a thick, oily stout with portwine notes and... well... a distinctive ice cream touch. Erm... I love it.
