Very intense aroma of bourbon and vanilla, very alcoholic. Opaque, light brown head, fair lace. Very sweet, loads of vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, hint of coffee. Full and soft body. Complex and balanced.
Aged 7 years, which is 2 years longer than recommended by the brewery. Tasted 3/6, so base my ratings on notes and memory. Pours very dark brown liquid with brown head. The aroma was filled with bourbon, roasted malt, dark chocolate and hints of vanilla. Taste is dry, low bitterness, dominated by bourbon and vanilla, supported by the roasted malts and dark chocolate. You almost caught some toasted coconut and toffee. Dry, long aftertaste with the same tastes, but vanilla even more prominent. Palate is oily with soft carbonation. If you ever have the chance to try this one out, I highly recommend it. February 2017 - Bottle share at CBC Islington for the Matteo Farewell tasting as ’Goose Island Bourbon County Stout - Vanilla Bourbon Barrel’, 2010 vintage. Big thanks to Cloin for this whale (which was apparently once a London shelf turd). Opaque black with a foamy brown head. Aroma is meaty bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, spicy and woody. Body is big and oily, tingly carbonation. Taste is coconut macroons, chocolate and vanilla, chocolate liqueur, earthy finish, syrupy sweet. Very intense. I like it but I don’t know how much I could drink. I didn’t notice any oxidation at all – just that ’meaty’ vibe I sometimes get from big sweet BBA stouts. Cheers cloin. 66cl bottle shared at my Farewell Tasting, London. 2010 vintage. Massive thanks to Colin for this one. It pours a deep dark brown color with a small brown head. Aroma is big boost bold juicy with liquid chocolate and vanilla, with bourbon backbone. Taste is sweet and bold, lightly boosty, some vanilla bourbon and some oxidised notes. Bottle share at Matteo’s leaving do. Pours jet black with a dirty tan head. Aroma is boozy Christmas cake with a little oxidisation. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, raisins and booze. Really smooth. Lovely

Bottle shared at the CBC Islington for the Matteo farewell tasting. Huge thanks to Colin for this one. 2010 bottle. A viscous sticky black brown coloured pour with a a loose tan fading. Aroma is sweet sticky malts, toffee, coconut, big sweet vanilla, oak. Flavour is composed of sweet layered malts, oak and vanilla, tangy plum, coconut, smooth and boozy Bourbon. Had this at a bottle share. 22oz. Black as night with no head on this guy. Creamy and cocoa aroma, just a hint of vanilla surprisingly. Vanilla and a little bit marshmallow taste, not nearly as marshmallow as Vanilla Rye, I like this better, not as sweet. Smooth and no booze taste at all.
