Appearance: Murky brown body with a creamy tan head.
Aroma: Barrel notes are strong with fig. Spice is mild with caramel, vanilla and booze. Light cocoa is noted.
Taste: Boozy but big fig. Sweetish cherry with some caramel. Light booze, very nice.
Palate: Full-bodied, mildly carbonated.
Overall: Great beer. Boozy but not really unbalanced.
December 29, 2014 - on tap at Clybourn. Muddy brown pour with some head. Aroma was bourbon, maple sweetness and toffee. Taste had the sweetness along with a nice woody and nutty flavor. Finish was a nice mix of the wood and alcohol with a touch of spice. Medium to full body that was very smooth drinking. crossovert (13947) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 14, 2014
Draft. Hugely complex desert beer, for sure berry notes, tanginess, heavy bourbon character, caramel, vanilla, and wood. anders37 (27062) - Malmö, SWEDEN - JUN 13, 2011
Draft @ FoBAB 2009, Chicago, IL. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish fruity caramel and toffe aroma with lots of berry hints and hints of bourbon. Sweetish malty toffee and vanilla flavor with berry hints. Has a sweetish malty berry finish with hints of bourbon and vanilla in the aftertaste. Pours with a medium head and a beautiful deep ruby red color. The aroma is very earthy and woody with some nice mild bourbon and alcohol with some notes of fig and raisin. The flavor is more dark fruit and bourbon notes, the bourbon flavor is very reminiscent of the bourbon character in Bourbon County Stout but milder (if that makes any sense). There is some licorice in the back but there is a lot more chocolate than anything here. The beer has a distinct alcohol note and plenty of nuttiness and roastiness to balance. Pretty tasty.

Sample at Goose Island Clybourn. Clear brown pour with a medium tan head. Nose of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, caramel and nuts. Flavor is oaky vanilla with caramel malt and a boozy bourbon finish. Not getting any aroma or flavor from the berries. Didn’t even know they were in there without the description telling me so. Still a good brew though. j12601 (13144) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - APR 29, 2010
On tap at Goose Island Clybourn. Pours a ruby hued cola brown and black with a medium sized white head. Bourbon! Big time vanilla and malt. Smells great. Tastes like Vanilla bourbon pudding. Smooth and supple. Yummy. One of the standouts of the day. Bit of warming alcohol on the finish, warm, super smooth, vanilla, toffee. MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 25, 2010

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2010 Tap at goose island... Pours a murky dark caramel brown with a very light beige head... Aroma of dark fruit, lighter fruit, and caramel malt...Flavors of caramel malt with some bitter hops and some citrus fruits. Medium carbonation and medium body. Quite boozy actually and this is totally different than the version that I had at fobab a few weeks back. Somewhat cloying on the sweet side.nbutler11 (1305) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2009
my rating from the brewpub did not match up with what i had at FOBAB 2009... poured a muddy reddish dark brown with no head... bourbon and caramel dominated the nose. somewhat vinous as well with red fruit.... flavorwise, red fruit and bourbon rich, mostly sweet with underlying toffee notes.
On tap at the Clybourn location. Tasted next to Imperial Brown. Pours like coffee with a trim brown head. Smells mildly of bourbon. Tastes strongly of dried craisins and bourbon. Has an odd twang to it, but is certainly tasty.
