COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Goose Island our brewers take every opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and aging techniques. For this edition of Bourbon County Brand Stout, they aged the classic recipe in rye whiskey barrels with raspberries and blackberries from Michigan. The result is a powerfully rich beer with notes of tart fruit and jam that fade into the warm spice of a fine rye whiskey.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of FrumptyDumpty. Pours a cloudy opaque dark brown with a small light brown head. Sweetish spicy aroma with some dark berry notes. Rich body, low in carbonation, sweet roast, licorice allsorts, filled chocolates and again lightly tart berry notes. Warming alcohol finish but never boozy. Very delicious. 280712

Bittle at RBWG hotel tasting. Pours black brown with a fine, beige cream head. Some black raspberries in the nose. Big sweet flavor, dark malta, some earthy bitterness. Heavy sweetness. Full bodies with fine carbonation. Sweet, sticky sugars to finish, some dry raspberries, bit of cocoa. Not altogether bad.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2012 22 oz. bottle, pours pitch black with virtually zero head, just some tan lacing that immediately dissipates. Aroma exudes loads of rich black raspberries, very subtle whiskey and not much else of the regular BCS on the nose. Flavour brings out the berries on top of everything - loads of raspberries, blackberries, natural sweetness from the berries - no roast, chocolate or coffee or anything resembling the base beer. ABV is amazingly well-worked in for being 12.8%. Light-bodied, but heavy flavours, quite cloying in sweetness. Certainly doesn’t feel like a stout / imp. stout to me. Soft carbonation and sweet fruity. Good rendition of BCS, but far from the best.

Bottle, 22oz. A black one, topped by a dense, finger-thick tan head. Lightly boozy nose with bourbon and raspberry. The blackberries isn’t detected. Coffee, roasted malts and some chocolate too. The bourbon isn’t as evident in the flavor as in the aroma, but on the other hand the raspberries are much more evident. Roasted malts, some coffee and a fine bitterness towards the end. Full-bodied and warming, especially warming in the end. A quite unusual one, very nice. 121109
