draft at clybourn many moons ago, Pours hazed yellow with white head. Aroma has lactic tart, diacitle, butterscotch. Flavor is real butter scotchy, some tart lemons, buttery finish. Thin watery feel. Yikes. NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Draft at Clybourn. Nice find. Pours a clear gold, maybe a hint of haze. Thin head. The nose is odd, mix of lacto and a graininess, faint vanilla and an acetic note which is faint. On tasting, the vinegar is held off. Light lemon juice and lacto, bready wheat. Quite nice, light vanilla and oak overall. White wine like. On the finish, the barrel grows, lending a sticky woody note that washes it out somewhat. The barrel only seems to detract here. Cherry is hidden. Okay but the base is better. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 30, 2012
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2012 On tap at gi clybourn. it’s actualy described as a blend of their berliner released during the early summer and their marzen i believe... Pours a mildly hazy pale apricot tinted consistency while allowing some light to get through. A thin soapy white head rests in top that reduces down to a wispy film... Aroma tart lemony acidic accents upfront with an underlying red fruit presence. Grainy and husky background malts on the backend. ... Flavors are refreshing with hints of refined tart lactic notes, not too bright or assertive on the sour front but quenching nonetheless. Mild husky grain presence through the middle and finish while a modicum of barrel rears its head but is fairly subtle overall. Finishes of with more aspects of grain that leaves an impression on the palate. Light bodied as expected with adequate carbonation to provide life. Touches if bourbon become more pronounced after warming especially towards the tailend - finishes a bit short. Not bad although the barrel aging or choice if barrel doesnt seem to add much for the better. perhaps the marzen dulls it down some as well.
