9/15/2013: Goose Island Casimir... Aroma: Caramelized bread rye bread crust, chocolate malt, and some nice smoke/char undertones. Appearance: Chesnut brown color with golden highlights and a frothy tan-colored head; clean appearance, opaque. Flavor: Caramel and dark malts up front; roasty and smoke in the middle with some fruity rye bread and a touch of molasses; almost salty finish; good level of sweetness and balance overall; complex and unique, but somewhat difficult to describe properly! Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, calm mouthfeel; slightly watery maybe? Overall: VERY good, quite delicious! Smokey throughout. Fortunately, I’m a fan of smoked ales and so I did appreciate just how authentic the smoked flavor was. Unofrtunately, there’s not a whole lot else going on - and that’s being kind. On tap from Heinen's so I've got a growler to ponder this one from: pours clear deep mahogany, fluffy khaki head that persists. Nose of smoked wheat, peat, rye bread, peppercorns. On the palate, roasted grains, wheat, rye bread, peppercorns, subtle sweetness possibly from caramel malts, a bit nutty and subtle dark fruits. Such a unique, complex style that we don't see often. Lighter bodied, somewhat dry finish. Really drinkable and I'm happy this is all mine this evening on the deck...

On tap @ Craftsman. Pours murky brick red, big soapy/foamy head. Sweet woodsmoke, big rye, bits of caramel and a hint of oak. Taste follows, with maybe a bit of vanilla sweetness from the bourbon barrel residue (or maybe its just my imagination). Soft, full palate. Nice.

Unclear reddish brown amber. Medium to large beige head, fully lasting with drippy lace. Smoke, peat, campfire, wheat, candy/fruit loops(?am I crazy!). Unique. Sweet and smoked. Smooth and surprisingly balanced to me. Interesting how it all comes together. Tulip on tap at Keystone in Hyde Park, for $7. Hazy, brown / red color. Thin khaki head, good retention. Nice smokey nose, good wheaty sort of bready satisfyingly smokey flavor. Hint of pepper. Light caramel malt. Bigger body. Good smooth carbonation, kind of dry in the finish. Mostly sweet taste, in the way an American wheat ale usually is, but good savory aspect with the smoke as well, I enjoy that. Light fruitiness to it. Growler shared by shigadeyo. Poured hazy dark brown with an average light brown frothy head that was mostly lasting with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy smoke and toasted bread malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium toasted sweet malt andf smoke flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Hazy medium brown with a small white head. The aroma is light smoke and some Belgian yeast. The flavor is similar, but also includes bourbon barrel, and spice. The finish is very dry, with some wood and smoke. Alright, but the overall mix is a little weird.
