Nice spicey aroma without being overpowering. The color is a nice deep copper. The flavor was mildly hoppy with some orange in it. There was only light carbonation in this beer, but it was clearly there. hopscotch (11181) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 8, 2003
Crystal clear, deep mahogany ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent lacing.
Lots of chocolate and caramel in the aroma.
Nice, nutty flavor with decent balance and notes of caramel.
Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, clean finish. thehoff (598) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - DEC 8, 2003
Nice deep dark brown ale with no head except around the rim. There is lacing. Smells nice and malty, nutty. Taste's a little bit like snow (except with a much better flavor). Bites your tongue a little bit I quess I'm trying to say. Nice nutty flavor. Nice and smooth with a slight warming feeling, but more important a flavor that grows after you've swallowed the beer ending in a nice bitterness. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 5, 2003
Clear garnet body with minimal off-white head. Aroma is light sweet, not much else. Taste is smoke, mild fruity sweet, some spice. Minimal finish. Light body. zborgerd (187) - Illinois, USA - DEC 3, 2003
Boring. Watery feel. Smokey, coffee taste. Needs more hops, less smoke flavoring. I'm not too impressed, sadly. I bought this one because my local beer store closed before I could get my Anchor Liberty Ale, so I was stuck with what the gas station offered. It is nice that they have Goose Island products though.
It just tastes uninspired... A clone of some other Goose Island beers with some slight changes.

I had to make a small attempt for the tan head, which dissipated quickly. Despite the body being a nice dark ruby red, it felt very light and a bit watery. It was surprising in both how smooth it was and how light it tasted. This is the most pleasing ale I have had. 3fourths (9357) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 1, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2012 Deep ruby red appearance. Smells of strawberries and woody raspberry. Very smooth throughout, sweet wood and chocolate with a light fruit touch leading to a wet, sweet finish. A very good Xmas beer, one of my favorites. BierBauch (784) - Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA - NOV 26, 2003
Decent looking ale, deep garnet-brown with a dense tan head and good retention. Nice malt aroma, roasted barley with a hint of smoke. Has some hop aroma there as well. Flavor is less impressive, smoky malt and slightly bitter. Finishes dry. Good mouthfeel, medium bodied. Nothing exceptional, but a decent brew. JasonG (776) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - NOV 25, 2003
Medium sized, thin brown head sits on a pretty dark red/brown color. Aroma is malty and chocolatey, slightly sweet. Flavor is malty at first, with a smokey middle, and a smooth finish, with just a bit of an off metalic note creeping in. Palate is a little thin, but not bad. Overall it's a decent brew. bbrock81 (317) - Le Mars, Iowa, USA - NOV 20, 2003
Dark, red-brown color, spicy aroma and flavor. Very smooth, thick feeling beer. One of the best winter beers.
