June 23rd, 2011 - Golden Ales are always happy return to my first glass of Duvel. I never knew the billowing head on a beer could reach such extremes! Your basic pale ale fizzles and pops on top, but the Golden ale makes art. Any brew that lets me mold and sculpt the foam, or go cloud watching in my glass, is always a welcome drink. Goose Islands Demolition is a nice, light beer, exhibiting the quality that make this style such a treat to sip on summer days plagued with lingering heat. True to form, the brew is light yellow in color, like faded dandelion petals, and a slight haze from the chill, pierced and punctured by bubbles. Cornmeal and honey, like a great slice of polenta, fill my nose, with some light flowery notes, perhaps from the surgically delicate addition of floral hops. My first thoughts: the Demolition is light, quenching and perfect for summer, with a strong carbonation to cut through afternoon snacking, more gentle flowery notes, and a nice mild hops bitterness in the aftertaste, leaving a light gaze of honeyed sweetness in its wake.

Taste: yeast bread, banana notes with subtle coriander, peppery ,piney hops. Mild spice bread nose. Gold, slight haze, with a white head and broken lattice of lace on glass. Medium/full body. A meal in a glass.

Draft at Bru Craft. Hazy yellow gold pour with a large reducing top of white foam. Lots of lace. Juicy grassy lemon Belgium golden ale. Honey. Parsley. Coriander. Green peppercorn. Moderately spicy finish. More refreshing than most golden ales.

Great grassy hop character with earthy Belgian yeast. Works very well with the bready and slightly honey malt. Very good.

This 22 oz. bomber came to me via trade with Strykzone. Thanks. It poured a hazy gold with a thick foamy white head that left good lacing behind. Nose of citrus, banana, Belgian yeasts, and caramel malts. Medium body and sticky mouthfeel. Flavor is complex with pale malts, Belgian yeast, grass, banana, lemon and coriander. Medium-bodied, with a good carbonation snap, Long dry finish. Quite nice Belgian ale.

Bottled. Small sample, old note. The aroma has aprikot/tropical fruity tones, bit earthy/funky yeast. Light hazy, golden coloured beer with a white head. The taste is light-moderate bitter, has Belgian yeast tones, fruity character. Nice.

Bottle poured a clear tarnished gold with a small lingering ivory head. Aromas of caramel, yeast and fruitiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of caramel, fruitiness and yeast with smooth dry lingering fruity finish.

Bottle (2010)... Pours murky and golden with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma is dusty, fruity and spicy, featuring pineapple and a hint of clove. Medium to full-bodied with nearly expired carbonation. The flavor is a marriage of pineapple and soft winter spices. Fruity, dry finish. Not my thing at all but its better than it was when fresh.

The aroma is malts, roasty some bread, slight banana/bubblegum. Pours a cloudy golden orange, with mostly diminishing off white head, slight lacing. The taste is bitter, maybe some umami. The body is medium, the texture is creamy, the carbonation lively a little fizzy. The finish bitter.

Was at the Goose Island Brewery. This beer has a nice finish and was a darker amber beer. Thought it had good balance.

02/26/2010 batch. Aged in probably less then stellar conditions, recently snagged off of a beer stores shelf. Pours a clear golden amber with little edging. Nose is cardboard, metal, apricots, wheat, and bubble gum. Taste is similar, fading stone fruits and yeast esters with some oxidized cardboard and faded bitterness. Its well over the hill, and far from great, but it remains drinkable at five years old.
