3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Medium amber with a small head. The aroma was fresh pine and Belgian yeast. The flavor started out with some nice malt, then mild berry/fruit, and finished huge with spruce The spruce is pretty overwhelming and a little much for my tastes.
On tap. Hazy copper with a small white head. Earthy, herbal, cloves, pine needles, and tea leaves in the nose. Flavor is of tea, spruce, and pine needles with a sweet caramel body. Some yeast and alcohol in the finish, well balanced and good carbonation. Light to medium bodied. vt3stick (103) - Chicago, USA - NOV 13, 2012
On tap at Fat Pour in Wicker Park. Lots of spice that contrasted with the light malts and medium carbonation. First real try w a spice and not a huge fan. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - OCT 26, 2012
On tap at the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL. Pours a cloudy, pretty burnt orange colored body with a finger-width, very creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is very fruity with lots of melons and a soft, bready malt backing. A light spruce note with some herbal qualities and touches of citrus. Flavor is similar. Light spruce and herbal notes with a soft, bready malt backing and a good amount of melon fruits. Hint of citrus again and some Belgian yeast as this finishes clean, soft, and fruity with a touch of bready malt sweetness. Medium length aftertaste following a very smooth, soft, medium body and a medium-light carbonation. Overall, a really solid beer. Excellent feel on the palate, very well balanced, and tasty. Good one. brian60625 (746) - Illinois, USA - OCT 24, 2012
Pint from the tap at Haymarket in Chicago. This has to be one of my favorites from Goose Island. I liked the distinctive taste of the spruce and melon combination, and it was delivered with a thick enough mouthfeel so that it had a natural presence and made a satisfying impression. It is bright orange, thin foam on top, and slightly fizzy. Overall an "A" which is no surprise given my favoritism for spice and veggie beers.

On tap. Poured clear medium orange with a sticky off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet blended berries and earthy wheat.. fresh, with a touch of orange and agave nectar sweetness too.. interesting. The flavor found wheat and light bready malts at the core.. tangy wheat and berries around.. spicy finish with very good balance. Light-medium bodied with high carbonation on the palate.. a touch watery on the middle.. tasty stuff overall. jstraw (1967) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 11, 2012
Draft at Jerry’s. Rose-amber with good, creamy, off-white head / Delicate nose of spruce, melon, and cream / Medium body, moderately sweet and lightly syrupy, creamy and smooth, with good hop balance and sweet finish / Stylish flavors of cantaloupe, honeydew, cherry and spruce / Superb flavor profile. Would like to see this a little dryer and hoppier, but maybe just me. BVery (11209) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - SEP 13, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Tap at Smallbar in Chicago. Reddish orange pour with a white head. Pine aroma but not resiny. Brewer says melon and yeast - I get both. Delicious. FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2012
Draft at map room. Pours a deep golden with a small white head. Aroma of light berry and a slight pie crust note, Bready with a bit of pine and herbal notes. Flavor is more aggressively herbal with the pine note coming out a bit more in the finish. Berry is at the front with some light bitterness. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Draft on tap at Hackney’s (Chicago, IL). Got this during a recent Takeover Event. Pours a golden amber hue, a bit darker, deep glow with a touch of haziness. Crisp deeper amber glow throughout, frothy white head dies to a smaller layer, laces ok. Aromas are bready and cereal mixed with a distinct gin like and pine needle element. Piney and floral feels, bit of grass, Juniper, and gentle sweetness, cereal and a touch fruity. Initial is a bit tart and dry, that spruce element and gentle fruit, bready malts, and tartness hit the palate firmly. Middle offers gentle bready and cereal grains, fruit, touches of sweetness intermixed as the finish returns to a more dry spruce feel, earthy hops, kiss of citrus and tartness, gentle spice. Pretty solid offering.
