Had this on tap at the Wrigleyville location on a recent trip to Chicago. Looks like a hefe, tastes like crap. Pass. Ughsmash (7510) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 29, 2005
UPDATED: JUN 29, 2006 On tap at G.I. Clybourn. Poured a cloudy deep amber with just wisps of white head. Freshly-cut bananas, candy corn, tart lemongrass, and an underlying sweet maltage graced the nose. Caramel and dark-fruity sweet malts, banana extract, and candied apricot were found in the flavor with well-placed lemon tartness. Lightly-grainy on the palate with well-placed bitterness. Good hefe.. not a great hefe. MilkmanDan (1942) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - AUG 19, 2005
Darker than a usual hefe, more of a hazy copper. Nose very wheaty, lots of clove, also spicy, minty. Flavor is hugely clovey, big chunks of bubblegum and banana. Quite good, particularly compared to the crappy, dumbed-down 312. AmEricanbrew (6954) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - AUG 17, 2005
On tap. Cloudy dark yellow with a foamy white head. Nice tart clove, spicy sweet smell. Smooth mouthfeel. Has a nice refreshing wheat malt, yeasty ,citrusy ,spicy flavor. A good hefe here. jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 28, 2005
Banana chips. Light, malty, sweet. Needs more hops. This is highly drinkable. Didn’t seem very wheaty, or close to style. But this is worth checking out.

This has a strong yeasty aroma, almost smelling like dishwater. Looks good, a cloudy gold body with a tall rocky head. Good lacing. The flavor’s not very complex, mainly a lemony flavor with a bit of banana - not the usual stronger fruit aroma with cloves that one gets in many hefeweizens. Still, nice on a hot day.NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 19, 2005

Had this for the first time by accident. They brought out the new sampler with this in place of the Saison. Spicey and brown. Cloves, banana, it’s all there. A bit tart. Pretty good example of a classic German style, I suppose. Probiere (992) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 8, 2005
Smells and looks heavily yeasty. The bottom of the keg perhaps. Bananas and bubblegum, some apple, minimal clove. Taste is refreshingly wheaty with accompanying esters, but the yeast makes for a thick mouthfeel and a bready afterburp. Hmm. ceejmomeechmo (58) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 1, 2005
On tap at wrigleyville...Poured a hazy golden almost a light brown with a small but thick white head. Big, heavy banana nose with subtle vanilla undertones. Flavor is more citrus than the nose, with spicy, banana notes also present. A great summer brew with definite session potential. NVBeer232 (467) - Reno, Nevada, USA - JUN 25, 2005
Dirty yellow body topped with a dense white head. Nice lacing. Big banana/wheat nose. Very rich mouthfeel. Full of rich wheaty flavors, banana bread, and other light fruit. Nie Hefe.
