UPDATED: MAR 6, 2006 Nice fruity and "dry" aroma. Pours amber with a small amount of cloudiness, some lacing. Flavour is OK -- there is a sort of nice mellow nuttiness, some hops, some malt, but also some cardboard. Lingering aftertaste is unpleasant. A bit watery. Not great, but not entirely awful either.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2006 along with sierra nevada, often the saving grace of an otherwise god-awful bar in chicago (beer-wise). very hoppy generally, not so fruity but a good amount of bitterness. generally very drinkable, perhaps a high ABV session beer. i dont understand why the label calls it an "english bitter" when its clearly a hoppy APA, but its still a solid choice every time

BeerandBlues2 (12657) - Escondido, California, USA - FEB 24, 2006
Draught at Flying Saucer in Little Rock. Pours copper with a tall foamy off-white head and spotty lacing. Aroma is floral citrus hop, caramel medium roasted malt (meal) with trace yeast. Medium bitterness and acidic hop flavor, malt body, low sweetness and lasting flavor. Medium bodied and crisp, refreshing palate.

Crisp sharp bitterness. God mild taste combination of roasted malt, caramel, fruit remains beneath the hops, but blends well to create a good session beer with a refreshing and clean taste. Close to an IPA.

Bottle: first of all the bottle says this is an English bitter while ths website says an american pale ale. Whats up with that? I will go with the american pale ale because it tasted like nothing. Nothing special what so ever.

To borrow a word from the brewers own description, I think "balanced" is a nice way to describe this ale. It may not blow your socks off, but its an agreeable, smooth, and drinkable beer thats sort of like an old friend. A fine intro to American pale ales.
