Sampler on tap at GI Rare Stout Night (Chicago, IL). Pours a a nice blackish dark hue, near opaque, edges are muted with a decent lacing head, thicker film. Aromas are jammy fruit and roast, toast, cocoa, and sweet toffee, caramel. Sweeter strawberry jam though. Initial is medium bodied preaching roast, rich strawberry fruit, largely sweet but a bit tart with cocoa, dark bakers chocolate, some bigger roasty coffee. Into the end some sweet caramel, vanilla, biscuits. Finish throws some mellow lingering strawberry and the roasty coffee and cocoa really stick and linger on the palate into the finish. Really interesting experiment. Strawberry and dry roast clash surely, provide a nice synergy. However the complexity ends there. Tastes good, but doesn’t push the envelope.
