COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel Aged Barleywine. 11% ABV, 60 IBUs. Loosely based off our 2000th brew at our production facility,we revived this hybrid American / English Barley Wine for a special treat. Coming out of the tanks we aged it in barrels previously used for Bourbon County Rare Stout (Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year) to add another layer of complexity.

Note: The original release of this beer (2010) was done in regular bourbon barrels. The 2011 and bottle release saw the use of the barrels formerly used for Bourbon County Rare. We are not seperating these as I do not believe the bottles will clarify this. The original release also saw an 11% ABV, with the bottling seeing closer to 13.4%

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 sampled at GTMW 2010. gettin late in the day with this one so here goes... pours a murky/muddled caramel brown accompanied with a thin light beige head... aroma/flavors contained a bunch of dark fruits, caramel with too much residual sweetness that made it seem somewhat underattenuated. a little too cloying for me to thoroughly enjoy. barrelness wasn’t too assertive.

Snifter at hopleaf... Poured a dark cloudy and opaque dark cola brown with a thin soapy tan head...Aroma of Flavors of sweet sacharine dark fruit semi-messy and not too refined. A little flabby and lacks refinement with very little barrel. Lacking in the barrel standpoint. Syrupy and very malt-forward and not too appealing

on tap today, 11/25/11, at the brewpub for black friday. this has no resemblance of its former self other than appearance. a ruddy mostly opaque reddish brown tint with a thin to medium very light beige head that is quick to recede.... bourbon toffee caramel and dark fruity nose. very nice barrel impartations, somewhat sweet, but showing some added depth with the deeper caramel and chewy toffee while hints of raisin and figs flirt underneath... flavors are more of the same with as much character and richness like the aforementioned aroma. hard to detect any heat so it went down smoothly. the barrel notes were not overdone and paired well with the base beer. just shy of medium bodied with a light carbonation. def an improvement from what i had on prior occasions.

(Draught) Pours an amber-brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, chocolate, bread, and cherry. Flavor of roasted malt, cherry, earth, caramel, some dates, and raisins with a dry finish.

deyholla (12663) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 17, 2010
Sampled from the tap at the 2010 GTMW. Poured a cloudy brown with a near brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was sweet grain, bread and caramel with a bit of dark grain and bourbon underlying. Flavor was quite sweet as well with caramel and cereal notes. The bourbon helps mellow the sweetness a bit in the finish.
