Barrel Aged Barleywine. 11% ABV, 60 IBUs. Loosely based off our 2000th brew at our production facility,we revived this hybrid American / English Barley Wine for a special treat. Coming out of the tanks we aged it in barrels previously used for Bourbon County Rare Stout (Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year) to add another layer of complexity.

Note: The original release of this beer (2010) was done in regular bourbon barrels. The 2011 and bottle release saw the use of the barrels formerly used for Bourbon County Rare. We are not seperating these as I do not believe the bottles will clarify this. The original release also saw an 11% ABV, with the bottling seeing closer to 13.4%

THE Barleywine tasting. Thanks very much Bruce for this monster. Slightly haze on this darkish amber beer. Little tan head. Smooth palate, slightly dry. Touch of vanilla and toasted coconut. Lots of smooth bourbon - well integrated. Underneath is a lovely rich toffee malt. Semi dry finish. About what you would expect from a BA Barleywine but somehow superior in every aspect. Very drinkable.

Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting, London, thanks to Bruce. Pours ruby-brown, clear, with a fine tan head. Nose rife with berries, some alcohol, caramel, cranberry. Big sweet flavor though not at all cloying, with candied fruits, big fruit cake, toast, toffee, slight cocoa, some wood, currants. Full bodied with fine carbonation, and faintly vinous. Moderate warmth to finish, lots of rich and toasty sugars, toffee, brown sugar, modest bourbon. Quite smooth, very flavorful, and well balanced. Definitely world-class stuff.

Bottle, 22oz, at TFODRBSG 2012. An almost clear one, brown in color and almost without any head. Alcohol, roasted malts, some pleasant hoppyness, a touch of vanilla and a dash of chocolate. Quite chocolatey in the flavor, with vanilla, alcohol, roasted malts and a fine bitterness. Too warm on the palate I think, but its pleasant anyway. Full body, sweetish. Some raisins and prunes. Really lasting finish, with the alcohol a bit too obvious. Overall, a really fine beer, but its too warming. A sharing beer. 120818
