On tap at the Clybourn brewpub. Pours a black body with an inch thick, dense and creamy, chocolate milk brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of lacing throughout. Aroma is creamy cocoas, roasts with a touch of ash, sweetened milk and dark chocolates, a light piney citrus, and a few florals. Flavor is roasty and piney up front before the creamy, milk and dark chocolate malts come in with some citrus, florals, and coffee. A bit of a toffee sweetness grows as well as some dry, somewhat ashy roasts and coffee before this finishes dry and balanced with a light bitterness from the roasts and citrusy, piney hops. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid stout. Roasty and well hopped with a nice cocoa malt backing. I enjoyed this. On tap at GI Clybourn pours a deep brown/black with about 1 finger of off white head. Nose & taste are sweet, dry coffee very nicely balanced.

On tap at the Wrigleyville brewpub, and snifter served with a dark, black/brown hue, a persistent, tan froth to the head, and equally frothy and wavey lacing. The aroma was medium roast, with primarily cocoa notes, and some lesser coffee presence. Caramel and molasses sweetness, and some light creaminess were also noticed and appreciated. Ditto on the flavor, including a medium hop bitterness that presented a lingering, woody/resiny astringency, a medium to full body, and a bit more liveliness to the carbonation than I prefer in a hefty Stout. Draft at GI Clybourn, and apparently it’s a different beer, though my notes from a few years ago are eerily similar. Pours a deep brown/black. Nose is really quite subdued. Some faint citrusy hops and a floral note behind faint roast. On taste, it is really quite bitter. A strong acidity from the roasted grains and the hops couple with a somewhat aggressive astringency. On tap at goose island clybourn. Poured into a snifter glass... Poured a deeper shade of a cola stout hue with more reddish tones towards the edges. On top rests a light beige head that quickly exits and therefore leaving a wispy ring around the edges... Aroma is an equal degree of mild roast and cocoa to mesh with some hoppy citrus and pine-like hop forwardness... Flavors are semi-sweet with more if a roast and genuine stout feel while allowing the hops to surface on the backend. Body is a touch thin for a 7.5% brew which also allows the abv to be pretty well hidden. A little warmth as we work our way through the glass.
