On draft the the Clybourn brewpub. Dark pour with very little head. Roasty aroma of nuts, chocolate, and malts. Creamy flavor, mostly chocolate with a slight coffee feel to it. Very enjoyable. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUN 3, 2011
Flight on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a murky blackish pour, brownish murky edges with a big cakey tannish brown head that dies to a small layer, laces a-ok overall. Aromas are coffee roast, creamy stout sweetness and dryness combine, some soda bread, dry hoppy florals and flourishes of pine. Some bakers chocolate, roast, and just a touch of sweet caramel and toffee coming through. Initial is medium bodied, giving a nice roast up front, touch more bitterness. With cocoa, touches of toffee, with some roasty coffee and roasted malts bringing some bitterness into the fold. Hops strengthen that with florals and grass, touches of pine grow on the palate. Sweetness comes in up front further in with cocoa and caramel, toffee, biscuits. A solid bitter slanted stout on the backend. An improvement over the original I think. Very worth the different entry and a great recipe change.
