3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap. Pours a brown cola color with a tan head. Aroma is much more roast than I expected along with chocolate and some hops. A little bit of butter. Taste is roasty with some hops. Medium, creamy body.
appearance: Pours a maple syrup colored body with a nice haze and a good sized head.
Smell: Reserved but i’m able to coax out some caramel & hops.
Mouthfeel: Nutty with some caramel and overlaid with roasted notes. An underlying hop bitterness nicely compliments the taste. A hint of chocolate in the finish.

Murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma is caramel, nuts, chocolate, raisan with some earthy and herbal hops. Taste is smooth medium sweet with dark sugars, dried fruits and chocolate notes, light earthy bitter. Medium bodied, smooth oily texture, soft carbonation.
Draft at Churchkey in D.C.
The beer is dark brown with a thin beige collar. The aroma is fabulous. Vanilla, chocolate, malt, bread, a touch of booze. The taste is so smooth and easy going, it’s hard to believe the aroma can be so powerful. Gene and I both marveled over the bold and assertive quality of the beer despite it’s low abv. The power of an imperial brown ale or barleywine with session-like drinkability. Great stuff.

Overall, an interesting choice from GI that seems a little out of their realm, decent but one and done.

9/16/2013: Goose Island Naughty Goose... Aroma: Enticing caramelized maltiness with dark chocolate. Appearance: Attractive brown color that’s golden around the edges, opaque overall; frothy tan-colored head that lasts a decent amount of time. Flavor: Rich maltiness that’s just right for the style - not to thick and heavy, but not too light and thin; caramelized sugar (but not too sweet), mild cacao and nuttiness in the middle, wonderful blend of hops (spicy/earthy, just a squeeze of citrus maybe) in the finish along with just a bit of dark chocolate; mild bitterness overall, but quite well-balanced. Palate: Medium-bodied; smooth, calm texture. Overall: This is an excellent brown ale that’s flavorful, sessionable, and extremely quaffable; everything is SO well-balanced! Draught (growler fill) from Country Fresh Market in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #163 for this beer. drsordr (2868) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - JUL 30, 2013

Draft at Craft. Pours turbid deep brown with tan head. Nose is caramel malt, brown sugar, hops, cacao, mild nuts. Tastes of earthy brown sugar, caramel malt, mild cacao, and ample hops. Well balanced and a top nothc example of the style that may as well be called the Rodney Dangerfield of beer styles. boxofrane (2559) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 16, 2013
