This poured impenetrable dark brown in color with a very thin off-white head. The nose gives off scents of mineral, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds and fishwater. In the mouth it was medium-bodied but lacked depth and concentration of flavor. This was utterly unexciting. Skyview (6115) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - OCT 26, 2008
Sampled from 750ml bottle during Surly D-Day. Pours a dark brown brew with a thin and fast dissolving tan head that leaves no lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, toasted dark malts, and a touch of pitted dark fruits and cherries. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malts, chocolate, pitted dark fruits and a touch of toffee. Finish is a little chalky with a mild chocolate and fruit aftertaste. This may be showing some of its year long age. BOLTZ7555 (3028) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - OCT 6, 2008
20th Anniversary bottle acquired via trade with chicagodri...Thanks Paul!!! Mahogany pour with a 1/4 latte-colored head. A deep inhale detects roasted malt, cocoa, and cherry skin. There is a mild sourness/lactic quality in the taste that accompanies more traditional bitter chocolate and chocolate. The sourness is off-putting and somewhat offensive. This one’s all about marketing...put a less-than-average beer in a pretty bottle and watch it fly off of the shelves. Not impressed. User29624 (1687) - - AUG 28, 2008
20th Anniversary Bottle from Goose Island Clybourn. Pours a very dark brown with a thin tan head. Mild aroma of chocolate, cocoa, and coffee. Nice roasted malt flavor with some chocolate. I thought the beer seemed a little thin. Average. BeerBunker (966) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - AUG 9, 2008
On tap at Clybourn brewpub. Pours brown with quickly diminishing white head. Mild aroma of chocolate and malts. Taste is simply of roasted malts and chocolate. Not an overly impressive beer. None of the flavors came through overly strong.

Draft at Clybourn. Poured a dark brown color with orange highlights. Distinct butterscotch aroma with milk chocolate and caramel undertones. Slightly sweet and medium bodied. I tasted roasty malt, toffee, subdued butterscotch and a splash of cola. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - AUG 6, 2008
I had this On tap at the Clybourn pub to offset my anguish over not getting any of the other subscription beers, then found out this was the one they were releasing tomorrow. Pours the color of hot chocolate. Aroma of chocolate, roaste malt. Nice chocolately roasty taste, with a bit of a dry finish. Milky mouthfeel. I liked it, pretty good stuff. kseecs16 (1216) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - JUL 28, 2008
Draught at the Clybourn pub. Opaque dark brown, light tan persistent head.
Rich creamy brew aroma is chocolatey malts, flavor is milky rich sweet with a nice dry roast character. Lingers slightly bitter and dry. I really enjoyed this, maybe it was just stumbling on a really nice porter after months of drinking ighter styles but this really hit the spot.
