Red-brown color with minimal head in the pour and sweet autumn aromas. Someone definitely put a lot of consideration into making this brew. The flavor has good yeast and malt flavors that mellow out into a pleasant finish. Well rounded. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking this beer. bgburdman9 (865) - columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 16, 2006
Poured a dark brown with not that big of a head. Aroma of maltiness, breadiness, brown sugar, very similar to a barleywine. Very sweet aroma. Flavor was sweet, had a little tartness, brown sugar. Palate was very thin almost as this as water. This kinda sucked. If this was a little thicker this would be great. Tastes like it could be a american barleywine with just a belgian yeast. kmweaver (3207) - Petaluma, California, USA - SEP 15, 2006
Trade courtesy of Monger! Pours a fluffy, khaki, big-bubbled head; attractive clear brown with a reddish tinge; good retention. Plenty of malty / brown sugar in the nose, maple syrup, banana, and caramel notes. Medium mouthfeel; unadulterated, almost tea-like malt presence (tastes like homebrewing!), little balancing bitterness; some fruity, banana-like components; mouth-drying, almost approximating a red ale. Medium, sugary finish. BeerPrince (1701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 5, 2006
Dark amber body with a thin off white head. Aroma is yeasty with lots of caramel malt. Some cherry and spices on the nose as well. Flavour starts sweet with notes of dark cherry before turning spicey. Finishes bready with a slight alcohol backdrop. JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 3, 2006
A nice looking beer with pleasantly sweet, appley aroma. Somewhat reminiscent of Hair of the Dog Adam in look and aroma and somewhat in taste. Numerous sweet flavors from cane sugar to cherry to dark apple and beyond. Very sweet taste that is true to the style. Well done!

Shared this with malachi on a Friday night. It was pleasing and easy to
drink but did not rock my world. Still, Goose Island has turned in a solid
effort with this one.
Aroma / Appearance - Bananas, rum, candy sugar, caramel, cherries,
pear and malt play against each other to see which one can dominate. They
end up forming a nice inviting balance. The body was a cloudy amber color
with a thin bubbly head. Based on the visual and olfactory feedback, this
was lining up to be a nice beer.
Flavor / Palate - The amount of flavors relative to the nose was a
little disappointing. Despite that, there was still plenty going on here.
Among the key players were caramel, honey, apples, peaches, peanut butter,
malts and cherries. A slightly yeastiness underlined everything giving it
a dry feel. The finish was pleasing, being smooth and sweet. This was
enjoyable and easy to drink but it did not rock my world. Still, it is a
well done beer I would have no problems sharing with others.
Thanks to Monger for this one. From bottle pours a dirty brown with off whtie head. Nose has caramel, candy sugar and hints of dark fruits. Flavor follows. Pretty good. barleyPops (1142) - Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA - AUG 21, 2006
12 oz. bottle picked up at Corral for $2.32. copper in color with a short lived tan head. sweet spiced aroma and flavor of spiced apples, caramel and brown sugar. an OK brew but Belgian Strongs are not my favorite, especially when the alcohol is evident as it was in this one. 12 oz bottle courtesy of and shared with gputty. My favorite of the 3 sampled today. Copper pour with an off white, almost yellowy head. Caramel and brown sugar nose. Sweet brown sugar flavor over a subtle fruitiness. Even, mildly dry finish. Very good! KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - AUG 20, 2006
Bottle. Pours a rich amber with a nice head and lacing. Aroma is nutty raisin. Flavor is a sour-sweet raisin, with plum and peach in the background. Full and coating on the tongue. A nice effort.
