3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2009 Pre-release bottle given away at the tasting below, Feb. 04, Tasted 4/19/05. Okay, the big banana taste has really settled down now. It’s still pretty prominent, but I had to get pretty far down in the glass to be reminded of it. Instead there a big pile o’malt here. Toasty and caramelly, with a fruity bubble-gummy aspect. Sticky, and with a fine alcoholic mouthfeel. Much better than my first impression.

In other words, banana. Hits you in the nose as soon as your pour. Overwhelms everything else. Pours dark yellow under a thin head. Likeable, but a bit overdone.
Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing! 2008 Vintage. A clear orange brown beer with a mid-sized most good lasting off-white head. aroma of dark riped fruits, caramel, oxidized fruits. Taste of dark caramelish malt, riped fruits, raisins, toffee, some wood, good! Erzengel (9364) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - AUG 30, 2017
2008 vintage. Great smooth mild nose. The beer starts fresh and malty. Very nice smooth with malt and cookies in the back. Refreshing, smooth and mild malty. Nice smooth beer. elbernays (1644) - Dublin, IRELAND - JUL 1, 2017
UPDATED: JUL 1, 2017 2009 bottle from McHughs. Bought this a while ago. Might be the oldest beer I?ve had. Pours reddish brown with tan head which disappears. Lots of raisin, Christmas cake, cinnamon, chocolate, soft leather on nose. Smooth sweet date, raisin, cake, some raspberry in flavour. Short wood, earth slight cocoa finish. Delicious beer and a real treat. ghostbeer (241) - Nebraska, USA - MAY 5, 2017
Fairly malty. Lovely deep amber color. Noticeable Belgian yeast funk going on. Not unpleasant, though. Complex and some subtle spice. GlennHendry (492) - OSHAWA, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 8, 2017
Complex and tasty. Spices, dark fruits, dark fruits, and brown sugar. Smooth with a full body.

Bottle at a share. An excellent example of a really under-brewed style. This nails the sweet, raisin malt and Belgian yeast interplay of some of the best dubbels. Complex and heavy, but worth sipping slowly on a cold night. markducommun (1212) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 11, 2016
Bottled 1/14/13, consumed 9/11/16.
Cloudy light mahogany, minimal tan head. Nose of deep molasses, raisin, allspice. Dark fruitiness. Lightly bitter, spicy. Muted, mellow sweetness. Medium to heavy body, creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Long finish. Everything blends together beautifully. Undertone of alcoholic sharpness. This aged remarkably well. Excellent. geologyguy (1651) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - AUG 12, 2016
UPDATED: AUG 12, 2016 Smells like apples...very nice, taste is very malty and heavy medium sweet...smooth and low hops...some complexity but not crazy amount...finishes like apple cider for a second...but aftertaste isn?t great...kinda bitter...lip smacking...hard to place...Had at Nora’s for D&D Mark_Eck (1998) - - AUG 8, 2016
2011 bottle. Pours a hazy brown color. Aroma and taste are bready malts, toffee, and brown sugar. kathouse (1932) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - JUL 31, 2016
Clear light brown with orange tints. Sweet aroma of candies and raisins. Body is light and sweeter than I would expect. Light spice with a lingering finish.
