Sampled on tap at Goose Belgian Fest (Chicago, IL). Pours a murky brownish hue, very darker and can’t see through. A touch of light at the edges. No head. A touch of offwhite film. Aromas are huge barrel, wet oak and Bourbon, vanilla. A touch of spice, toast, the dark fruit dates and tannins shine through. Rich barrel presence, touches of brown and candi sugar, caramel. Aromas are rich and vibrant, dark and sweet. Initial is fuller bodied with rich sweeter malts, caramel, brown sugar, candi sugar, some spicy and estery Belgian yeast characteristics as we get into the middle. Front smacks of dark sweetness and rich barrel, wet oak and spirit, quality Bourbon. Wet and sweet, lots of vanilla, touch of apple, brown sugar, wet caramel. Toffee, some sweet dates and dark fruit, touches of tannins from the fruit addition. Finish is warm and sweet, lots of Bourbon, sweet brown sugar and caramel, a touch of maple. Rich and big and huge flavors.
