Draft at Fobab. Pours a deep amber with an offwhite head. Mostly clear. Nose is heavy caramel. Distinct amber ale qualities. Burnt sugar. The licorice is slight overall in the nose. On tasting, moderately sweet and tending distinctly towards the caramel qualities. Rich overall. Some warmth from the barrel and spice. Still, the caramel is dominant, particularly with the vanilla notes.

Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours a clear amber red with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a bunch of licorice with some sweet grains and a hint of rye barrel. Flavor is very strong with black licorice with a bit of barrel backing. Not a big licorice fan.
