gtmw09... poured a muddy dark apple cider brown with a bit of dar reddish hues... aroma of refreshing light tart raspberries....flavors had well developed raspberries flavors and a nice degree of tartness. lively mouthfeel and quite easy to drink. i thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I caught this by accident when walking past as they were trying to clear space for the 2:00 tapping of a Saison. If Id known how good it was I might have come over sooner. This gem is a nice example of what a sour can be. Tart enough to shock the senses but not so intense that it then wears them down it was a nice break from stouts and porters. I hope Goose Island continues to experiment with different versions of Matilda.

Aroma / Appearance - A fruitiness that at first I thought was cherries turns out to be a nice raspberry foundation. The cloudy orange body is murky but not from sediment. Tart and dry it wakes up the nose and forces one to spend a few minutes admiring a well crafted beer.

Flavor / Palate - The taste is similar to the aroma though with a little more kick. This may be due to the glass as much as anything. Whatever the reason I would have definitely asked for another pour if it were still on. At 7.5% ABV it was heavy enough that more would have been deadly but not so high as to kill my desire to want it again. It actually makes me want to go pick up a bottle of Matilda this week.

Sampled at GTMW 2009 (Madison, WI). Pours a hazy amber with a bit of a reddish hue, decent lacing glowing feel. Aromas are bretty funk, cheese, hay, with a bit of raspberry feel. Taste is dry, raspberry tannins, funky brett with soft cheese. Tart sourness, lactic? This finishes with lactic sourness, raspberries, a touch of sweetness, light bitterness. I prefer this to regular Matilda. Really nice with the raspberry aging adding a layer of dark fruit sweetness and natural berry tannins to the fold

Sampled at Blind Tiger Very Special Keg Night 11/19/08: Raspberry notes very strong up front, but subtle on the finish. The berry flavor was a bit too strong for my taste.

Tap at BT for the VSK night of 08. Pours a murky light reddish pink with a slight woody coppery tinge and a nice fizzy head. Aroma is moderately powerful raspberry syrup, with vegetal dms, light funk with brett and farmhouse-like with corn and cabbage as well. Flavor is nicely tart, brett is there but a bit subdued- leathery and earth - malts become a bit stale and kind of muddle up the flavor and palate a bit- seemed a bit dirty overall with some harsh tannins and earth in the end- seemed liek it would do much better given more time to age.

on tap at The Publican, listed as "Matilda Framboise". pours hazy dull pink with white head. nose has raspberries, very yeasty, with slight funk, the raspberry notes wasnt huge. flavor is pretty much the same, lots of Matilda coming through still with a nice raspberry flavor but again it isnt loaded or coming off very fresh and this isnt that sour/funky. pretty nice version of Matilda but nothing fantastic. how about a 100% brett fermented matlida?

On Tap at the Blind Tiger Ale House, New York, 19-11-08. Pours the colour of old blood watered down a little, though on reflection maybe not quite that red, there is a white head. There is a nice soft raspberry nose and the initial flavour is apple peel, bit furry, nicely sour good dusty dryness, I really like it. The place is jammed pack so struggling now with detailed notes. A 8 A 4 F 7 P 4 OV 15 3.7

Tap at the Blind Tiger for VSK 2008. This was pretty weak. Aroma was mediocre at best, at worst a complete turn-off, tons of raspberry and peanut butter, husky wheat, and very sweet. Makes me recoil. Wow. Flavor is muddy, strong raspberry and chocolate, salt, mostly just repulsive.
