On tap at gi clybourn. Never got to this one at fobab... Pours darker than the previously had porter, almost solid black with barely penetrable edges. A smooth creamy medium beige head rests on top... Barrel forward nose with assertive bourbon notes to pair with vanilla but keeps and remains fairly boozy even for a lighter barrel aged beer... Flavors fall of a bit due to the small base beer that resides underneath. Bourbon and vanilla throughout with subtler notes of chocolate and the underlying Irish stout. Dark brown with amber edges... A bit too sweet, too much barrel time, buttery note, bourbon, coconut, heavy malt... Taste is a bit more balanced, lots if bourbon with a distinct 4 roses finish, a touch thin and needs more chocolate, base doesn’t hold up

The 4th beer at 2011 FoBAB. You could still get the classic roasted unmalted barley characteristic flavor of a dry stout in this beer. It has those woody, very coffeeish aroma and flavor components, no sweetness. Palate was revivable, decent. In this version, however, I have to say the bourbon was overwhelming. Not necessarily in hotness from the alcohol, but more in a super vanilla way. In fact my notes say "All vanilla all the time." Ultimately had to toss half of the large size sample in favor of newer things. Sampled from the tap at 2011 FOBAB. Poured a near black with a lasting brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a good amount of bourbon with dark grains and some dryness. Draft at FoBAB 9. Pours a deep brown black with a tan head. Nose is nice enough. Faint roast, toasted oak, vanilla. Some faint hop notes sneak in. Pretty straightforward. On tasting, Pretty similar. Notes of toasted coconut and then a tartness. Nice roast, balanced bittering. Really straightforward overall. Decent.
