Tap at Churchkey. Pours clear golden. Weaker foam. Nose is moderately funky, fresh dough, hefty buttery chardonnay barrel. Spicy grapefruit comes though at first then fades. Light butteriness is hill farmstead saison like. Taste is tangy, more buttery chardonnay, some mealy apple detracts. Low acid level, refreshing. Dustier palate as it warms.

The Goose Island crew was walking down the line for BCS variants with pitchers of this at GTMW 2013. Pours a clear gold with a smallish white head. Notes of pale and bready and sweet malts, sugars, straw, and a lot of grapefruit juice. Some bitterness from the rind. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a funky, fruity, then dry mouthfeel. I liked this but give the edge to regular Sofie.

Taster on tap at Neons. Clear golden yellow color. Nice bretty, tart aroma. Some moderate citrus-grapefruit, not too much though. Some orange citrus, thin white head, couple bits of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. More dry in the finish. Lightly tart taste, very much like a grapefruit is. Hint of oak wood. Light sweet. Great balance of grapefruit, oak, light belgian candy sugar and spices. Some grapefruit / citrus zest. Very enjoyable stuff, pretty balanced and well-done. Definitely an improvement on the base, I think

Pour on tap at Black Bottle, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of white fruit, peach, pear, some mango and pineapple as well, hints of grass, spice notes, touch of biscuit, yeast. Taste is a mix of biscuit, bread and yeast into nice white fruit, peach, pear, some slight pineapple, mango, hints of yeast, slight spice notes, finishing with some earth, slight tart fruit.

Draft to snifter at Neons. Looks good for the style; a slightly hazy orange with thin white lacing. Smells. And tastes good too; woody and a little yeasty with a heavy but pleasant grapefruit presence. Nice on the palate too. Great beer, and a major improvement to the base.

Clear light gold with a thin foamy head. Aroma of slight lactic sour tones with some barn yeast esters and a little grains of paradise. Flavor is dry and tart with a nice mellow sourness, some flavorful Saison malt tones with a kiss of bubblegum, and a dry hay and blonde malt finish.

Draft at Pony Bar HK. Pours a light hazy orange body with nice thin crisp, carbonated lacing. Aroma is great tart, sour funk, oak and fruit juice. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet sugar, hibiscus, almost a Jolly Pumpkin like sour tartness. A touch of grapefruit and honey juice.

12oz pour at Smoke and Barrel DC. Pours a mostly clear gold with some white head that faded fast. Nose has a ton of chardonnay, buttery dough, grapefruit pith, lemon peel, some herbs. Flavor is similar, lightly sweet, buttery chardonnay, grapefruit peel, lemon peel, a little pithy too, a touch of candy. Dry, refreshing finish. Exceptional.

Draft at Churchkey. Well I had had some Sofie before, but this didnt even resemble its base beer. Poured a vibrant, hazy golden peach hue with a thick white head like meringue. Aroma is full on grapefruit - the rind really comes out in this one. Flavor is like a juicy, tart grapefruit - almost like just drinking a glass of that. Nice tart notes, spice character still remains just enough. I think I had hoped for a little bit more with this one, I like grapefruit but it unfortunately made this one a bit one-note for me. I dont think I could handle more than a pint of this one at a time unless it radically changes as it warms.
