UPDATED: JUL 31, 2013 May 11, 2013 - tap at GI 25th anniversary party. Clear yellow pour with no head. Aroma was citrus, spice and sour. Taste was consistent with aroma. Had again 7.31.13 - on tap and big head with lacing so bumping to a 4 and overall to 16, this is solid.

On draught at Fibbers. Pours a hazy straw color with a white head. Aroma is light citrus, wheat and some lemon. Taste is semi sweet. The grapefruit is pretty gentle and although I had hoped it to have more citrus, this was still a good beer.

Tap at Dexters. Filtered yellow orange. Creamy, soapy white head. A lot of flavor, but comes off a touch harsh for the moderate ABV. Some vinous champagne, white wine notes. The grapefruit comes across, juicy, not hoppy. More fruit tones and balance come out the more you sip at it. Pretty good.

12 oz draft pours golden with a white head. Aroma of citrus, malts, bread and fruit. Taste is grapefruit, malts and grass.

Draft at Pony Bar HK. Pours a light hazy orange body with nice thin crisp, carbonated lacing. Aroma is great tart, sour funk, oak and fruit juice. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet sugar, hibiscus, almost a Jolly Pumpkin like sour tartness. A touch of grapefruit and honey juice.

Draft at Churchkey. Well I had had some Sofie before, but this didn’t even resemble it’s base beer. Poured a vibrant, hazy golden peach hue with a thick white head like meringue. Aroma is full on grapefruit - the rind really comes out in this one. Flavor is like a juicy, tart grapefruit - almost like just drinking a glass of that. Nice tart notes, spice character still remains just enough. I think I had hoped for a little bit more with this one, I like grapefruit but it unfortunately made this one a bit one-note for me. I don’t think I could handle more than a pint of this one at a time unless it radically changes as it warms.

Draft at Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium sized creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of fresh citrus, yeast, herbal hops, white wine. The taste is big grapefruit notes, herbal notes, bread, spice, herbal hops, tannins, cider apples. Medium bodied. Nice.

Hazy golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, vanilla, wood, spices, and light alcohol. Taste of sweeter grapefruit, citrus, spices, wood, and a dry finish.

Taster on tap at Neon’s. Clear golden yellow color. Nice bretty, tart aroma. Some moderate citrus-grapefruit, not too much though. Some orange citrus, thin white head, couple bits of lace. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. More dry in the finish. Lightly tart taste, very much like a grapefruit is. Hint of oak wood. Light sweet. Great balance of grapefruit, oak, light belgian candy sugar and spices. Some grapefruit / citrus zest. Very enjoyable stuff, pretty balanced and well-done. Definitely an improvement on the base, I think

The Goose Island crew was walking down the line for BCS variants with pitchers of this at GTMW 2013. Pours a clear gold with a smallish white head. Notes of pale and bready and sweet malts, sugars, straw, and a lot of grapefruit juice. Some bitterness from the rind. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a funky, fruity, then dry mouthfeel. I liked this but give the edge to regular Sofie.
