COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Gangstergafje (1313) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - DEC 18, 2017
18-12-2017; bottle; at home (bought at Saveur Bière, #16 of Beery Christmas 2017).
The looks of the beer are fine. Not to special, but most Saisons don't look to special. The colour of the beer is a bright yellow. The beer has a slight haziness, but it is still possible to see trough it. On top of the beer a rather thin layer of rough white, fast collapsing foam is formed. Within seconds the foam disappears, leaving nearly nothing.
The smell of the beer is that of a Saison...very barnyard like...not entirely for me. There are some hints of malts, but they are a bit covered by the other aromas. I smell some zesty hops, but loads of spicy and barnyard yeasts. It smells a little bit like zoo to me...
The taste is comparable. Some sweet malts, bitter and slightly acidic hops, with some zesty notes, but most of the flavour is filled by yeast. Barnyard and a bit tart, with a spicy profile, including some peppery notes. Not bad, but not great either.
The palate is avarage. Medium light body, a sticky and dry texture and medium high carbonation. The finis contains some zest, and spicy and tart yeasts. All in all, not my favourite beer, but definitely not a bad one. It doesn't seem to special to me.

Beery Christmas #16. 2016 vintage. Pours a slightly hazy lightish amber, no discernible head nor carbonation really. Aroma is tart and fruity, delicate, vinous. Light and pleasant. Light to medium body, acidic mouthfeel, yet not overtly so. Flavour is delicate, rather sweet and malty, but still light, with a nice funky tart acidity. Flavours share a lot with a good cider, I get a lot of fruity flavours and especially apple and pear. Finishes warming with a definite white wine note. Excellent Saison! This is a great alternative to white wine. Superbly drinkable, light and simply delicious.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2017 Clear/hazy golden/amber beer with a slight/medium off-white head. Medium aroma; taste starts medium sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Has some malts and Belgian yeast with aome citrus at the end. Nothing spectacular to be honest, but its a good beer.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2017 De couleur jaune claire avec une fine mousse blanche. Les arômes sont frais et citronés, la saveur est acidulée et rappelle les agrumes. Laissée en bouche on lui découvre une arrière note poivrée.

2016 bottle vintage. Sophie is a delicate wine-like take on a saison. Earthy aroma of must, white pepper, wine and lemon. Crisp and very effervescent with an active carbonation that, along with the peppery hops, lends a prickliness on the tongue. Pale hazy yellow pour with a big frothy white head.
