Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Originally reviewed: 9/13/10. Bottle picked up in Findlay, OH in June. Cellared since. Bottle on date: Oct. 23, 2009. Poured into a tulip glass. Pours a uber-cloudy deep gold with a large frothy white head capping it off. This looked like a dessert with whipped cream on it. Big scents of pineapple, tart apples, orange zest, and yeast. Very nice nose. The body was crisp, bordering on effervescent. Finish was mild. Tame white peppery spiciness right off the bat, followed by a wash of tart fruits, and capped off with a mild funky yeast quality. Flavors really meld together well. So glad I’ve got another one of these away for later. Really standout offering here. Drinkability is lowered, as this needs to be savored. I’d find no problem splitting this with good friends. Highly recommend.

Pours golden with a white head. The real champagne of beers. Grapefruit sweetness. Very appealing, crisp, clean taste. Tried this on a couple of occasions, and every time I like it more and more.

Pours foggy gold. Aromas of wheat and spices with a hint of honey. Really taste citrus to begin with. Followed by an array of spices. Not strong at all. A very pleasant beer.

Picked this up at Bert’s Better beers. 2012 Vintage. Stuck it in the fridge and poured into a Hill Farmstead glass.

A - 2-Finger crystal clear head, okay head lacing and fast dissipation of what head was there. SRM of 3. Honey colored, light golden tan appearance.

S - Wild yeast, honey and spices.

T - Nice notes of orange and wild farmhouse style yeast. :Very mild spice almost barely there. Lingering taste of a cheap lager which is disappointing.

M - 80/20 carbonation on a mouth swish. Light bodied, dry finish and that annoying Schlitz taste on the after taste.

O - Tasty. Would be better if something sweet were added like honey, berries or a bit more aging.

Slurp slurp... this is a beautiful beer. Rich bubbles rising up in this lively wine barreled saison that has great aromas of grapefruit, orange peel and peppery spice. The flavors are well balanced and refreshing ! Its not quite as complex as some other saisons on the market but it pure, zen like balance make this a top pick in my book !

On tap taste at Congregation Ale House in Long Beach, CA on 4/9/12. Poured into 8 oz. snifter. Clear, pale yellow with very fine, small white head and fair to good lacing. Aroma of citrus, flowers, spices and earthen yeast. Taste is fruity, lony and mildly tart, Medium/light body and soft carbonation. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden with bubbly white head. Fades rather quickly. Smell is soft yeast, white wine, lite citrus. Taste is light spice, more soft white wine, some yeast and bread. Good brew.

Bottle, bought in Chicago in October 2011. Hazy golden with a medium white head. Aroma of yeast, citrus, bread and spices. The taste was very dry with spices, yeast and hay. Also nuts and some malt and brett. An ok beer.

Len och frisk doft. Smaken är lite sträv eller lite brett. Frisk men ganska torr och jag hittar en tydlig nötighet i eftersmaken. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
