COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.

Tragedy struck at my home early Monday morning. Either a tremor of a passing train caused a box of bomber bottles to slide off its shelf in my beer cellar. Only one casualty, though: my 2009 bottle of Sofie. Luckily, when I went to GI Clybourn to train for their sampling program, they had it on tap. Color is bright Belgian pils or tripel gold, and pretty hazy. Almost a whole fingers width of white parfait foam. Smell has a very light orange zest and Belgian light malt. A bit of spice in the aroma, too, but my nose is too stuffy to best describe it. Taste is effervescent, and my first impression is of light pepper after all. Maltiness settles in to leave a nice sticky aftertaste. Maybe some Belgian candi sugar, but not too sweet. Alcohol is not a big player here. Just a nice golden ale flavor with extra depth.

Pours translucent golden with a bubbly white head. Scent is light spices as well as citrus. Taste has the Belgian spiciness with some sweet citrus. Mouthfeel is effervescent, similar to champagne. Quality unique beer.

Pours a hazy golden color with surprisingly little head. Aromas bursting with citrus and funk...........but very one-dimensional. Flavors are fairly nice with citrus, mango and other fruit upfront with a mellow and slightly bitter finish. Medium-bodied. A solid Saison but not great.

Sour barnyard smells. Pours a golden orange haze with a very big tight white head. Giant lacing. Citrus and apricots and a solid yeast uderbelly. Constant champagne bubbles. Very nice saison.

12oz bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A straw coloured pour with a fast fading white head, and high carbonation; aroma of damp straw cut through with white grape juice; soft and creamy in the mouth with a tart fruity taste; and an interesting finish with coriander and white pepper providing warmth. The initial impression is that this is very sour, but the sharp edge wears off leaving a very pleasant beer.

From Saveur Biere. In Goose Island glass. At lunch, with maccaroni bolognesa. Noticeable yet elegant, non agressive funkyness. Notes of white grapes/wine and refreshing amarillo hops. Effervescent. Sounds good but the truth is that it took much long to finish, wasnt easy drinking.
