COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 12FEB14. So it is a little old. The pour is a milky copper-orange color with a bountiful, foamy off-white head. The aroma is floral, resiny, and hoppy like an Imperial IPA might be. A type of orange or pear feel to it too. The body is medium. The taste brings out an explosion of bitterness through those floral hops. A weird sort of astringent acidity surrounds this.

On tap at the source... Golden mostly transparent hue and topped with a creamy soapy white head... Aroma of crystal malt and citrus combined altogether. Earthy and sweet. Nothing unique... Flavors more of the same with moderately sweet, citrus and a deeper malt tonage. Just above medium bodied with a lighter level carbonation. Not my favorite.

Pours out a nice darker amber color with a small white head. Aroma is of lots of evergreen hops, pine, sweet citrus, and some lingering boozy notes. Taste is a punch of citrus, some evergreen/piney hops, mildly acidic bitterness, some odd fruity/floral notes and lingering boozy sweetness.

On tap at MacGregor’s, very enjoyable. Tiny bubbles, dark clear amber, clean thick head. Citrus and mango along with malty notes waft out. Some of the same in the palate, very subtle and delicate. No alcohol detected. Really good.

Clear tannish orange in color... Aroma of herbs, basil, citrus hops.... Flavor is light and crisp, not overly malty, herbs and grassy hops dominate... Lightly bitter on the palate... Solid ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Elwood (3336) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - OCT 9, 2013
Serving: Draft at Leesburg Brewing Company. It pours a ruddy copper color with a small off white head. The nose has slight herbal and resin notes. The flavor seems more malt driven than hop forward. There is a solid breadiness the whole way with a little pine resin and citrus kicking in. Medium bodied with average carbonation. This one seems ho-hum to me.

Keg Half Pint at White Horse American Beer Festival 2016, Parsons Green, London in July 2016 - Orangey Gold in colour. Good off-white head. Excellent lacing. Very Fruity; citrus orange and tropical fruits. Hoppy; piney resinous hops. Malty; sweet malts, caramel. Sweet-bitter fruity hoppy throughout. Nice Impy IPA! (2016-07-02)

Draft at Eulogy. Clear deep amber pour. Gently sweet but mostly dry. Well blended. Strong hop character.

madvike (3286) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 11, 2013
On tap at Madison’s pre-GTMW event - Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Nose is dank hops, real citrusy with a clean malt base. Taste has a little more sweetness and booze, with lots of dank mango and citrus hops. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated. Real nice--not sweet or hot.

Bottle from Brook Falls Discount. No bottle date, so no idea how old. Pours golden orange with a high foamy white head leaving a lot of lace. Aroma has tropical fruit, pineapple, and sweet caramel with a bit of pepper. Later down in the glass the honey really kicks in. Taste is led by sweet caramelly malts, with pineapple, mangoes, honey, pine and some alcohol. Medium boided and sticky. Finishes nicely blended between bitter and sweet, with length, and some of the pepper showing in the late finish. Goose’s homage to Hopslam? Perhaps 80+% of that super quality brew, and overall a solid tasty offering. 14.8
