COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Tap at Happy Gnome. Mostly clear amber orange pour with a spotty white head. Lots of grapefruit and citrusy hops. Bold and bright. Very nice.

DocLock (11191) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 2, 2013
Draft from Craft and Capone’s. Pours hazy dark straw toward copper wth clingy off-white head. Nose is huge tropical fruit, with notes of mango, tangerine, grapefruit, heavy black pepper, huge balanced caramel malt bill, and a smooth, delicious finish. This beer kicks major ass, and I dare say in a blind taste test would stand up to and even kick the ass of many of the world’s elite IPAs/IIPAs. I look at Chicago as a slightly better version of Detroit, and I look at Illinois as a superior IIPA. Get ya some now, or be labeled a moron, you moron! And if you cannot get this due to regional considerations, then I will gladly rescind the moron label, punk!

Cool to be rating a beer inspired by FLW less than a mile from his AZ campus. Amber colored pour with a white head. Fresh hops hit the tongue, some grapefruit peel, lemony notes, nice floral hop bill that lends to some grassy notes and then there is a nice backbone of malt. But the hops do steal the show.

Draft at Igby’s, served in a snifter. Pours a clear golden orange color with a small off-white head that settles into a fairly thin ring after a few minutes. The nose is lighter than the flavor, but they’re consistent in content - tropical and citrus fruits (orange, mango, papaya, and pineapple stand out), caramel and sweet malts, honey, pine resin, and tea. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, sweet, coating mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Good double IPA; glad I finally caught up with this one.

On tap at Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours light amber with a rich beige head and a citrus aroma. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor with a very nice hop pr ofile. A bitter finish that sticks to the palate.

Clear dark orange beer, big aery yellowish head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very soapy, floral,c itrus, bit sweet, caramel, malty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, honey, malty, citrus, floral, bit fishy (no really, like fish), weird, spicy touch, little bitter. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, bit soapy, grapefruit, peaches, more soapy.

Draft @ Goose Island night, Hoppy Loft. Orangée, col crémeux. Arôme est houblonné agrumes, retro malté, caramel, avec une impression belge. Palais reste orienté houblon, plus renforcé avec des notes agrumes, malt offrant une pointe de biscuit, pin persistant. Touche abricot avec encore eune marque levure belge.

Deep amber with a thin white head. The nose has a lot of bright berry and citrus with a touch of iced tea and some soft caramel as well. Bright and fruity with some lingering yeasty esters on the back. Sort of barleywineish with some lingering sweetness. A really nice brew.

On tap at Timothy O’Toole’s Pub, Chicago. Hazy copper with a white head. Aroma and taste of hops, grapefruit, resin and some caramel. Fairly thick body and with a long bitter finish. Also some warming alcohol.

Tap at Strong Ale Fest. Pours clear golden, okay foam. Nose is really intense cheesecloth, sticky, not really fresh. Taste is juicy, mildly cheesy still, mothballs, basement, bitter grapefruit peel. Powerful grapefruit peel bitter finish.
