COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandiose vision for a mile-high skyscraper dubbed "The Illinois," we set out to brew an imperial IPA that would be similar in name and ambition. "The Illinois" Imperial IPA is dry-hopped with three of our favorite hops: Cascade, Meridian, and Citra. the result is a harmoniously hoppy ale with a flavor and aroma that is uniquely Goose Island.

Bottled. Poured clear, honeyed orange with a sticky white head. The aroma picked up sweet honey and caramel notes with accents of fresh citrus and black peppery hoppage.. juicy and enticing. The flavor found sticky honey and lesser caramel at the core, with spicy pepper, citrus, and light grassy bitterness around.. finished peppery and warm, but the boozage didn’t take over. Medium-bodied, but fairly filling on the palate.. good feel and flow.. this was well done.

Strykzone (7362) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUN 28, 2013
On tap at Global in Edwardsville. A clear and coppery beer. Minimal head. The aroma is vegetable and cat pee. All kinds of both in the flavor made this a little hard to enjoy. Some pine and citrus with caramel. Not for me.

BlackHaddock (7346) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 22, 2017
Third beer on my second flight in Devilicious, Temecula California on 10th Feb 2017. Mini haze to the golden pour, the head an off-white affair. Hoppy nose with the Citra hops doing what they do. Taste is hops on a solid malt base, hops win the battle.

12 oz. bottle and I need to stop buying bottled IPA’s. IPA’s need to be draft or growler fill only. A bottle just doesn’t do them justice. Aroma is a mild floral, citrus and light pine hints.

Flavor is more sweet then I was hoping for. Strong amount of caramel and toffee malts, borderline sticky texture on the mouth with a medium in body leaning on fuller. The ABV is nicely hidden. Now as far as hop profile, it’s decent but the sweetness takes over. Citrus, grass and light pine with a light/ mild lingering bitterness after the sip. The only thing that come to mind is.... Well, mild. Very drinkable IPA that I’m sure would score higher on draft.

Another beer from Goose Island that harshed my buzz. Small sample at mile, pours clear brown gold with medium lacing and small white head. Notes are grain alcohol and stale wood. Maybe a touch of orange booze to round out the grossness of this brew. Christ

Sampler pour on tap at the Clybourn brewpub (Chicago, IL). Big props for Adan helping me out with an extended sampler. Pours a darker golden orange hue, mellow haziness starts to clear out. A frothy whitish head dies to a mellow filmy layer, loose lacing overall as it rings thicker. Aromas present a firm earthy hop influence, lots of florals and grass meet a gentle citrus twist, more resiny and piney influence assaults. Firm but earthy, understated fruit qualities for me, just a touch of citrus. Mellow bready malts are clean, but do show up a touch. Initial is a considerably different offering, showing medium firm fruit presence. Grapefruit and some gentle tropical fruit, gumball/wad element is a bit presence, touch sweet. Florals, citrus rind, and some gentle girthiness. Bigger more potent and complex hop presence offered. Middle shows a touch of body, fruity and crystal malt sweetness, bready and biscuity but still a firm hop presence holds the reigns. Backend is more dry as we start to head on out. Florals, a but of fruit and decent citrus presence tapers. Finish is dry, bitter, a bit of girth in body still hangs around. Soap, florals, firmly bitter finish. Solid, pretty fresh. The nose really didn’t present everything that was in there for me. Pretty solid DIPA though once you get into it. Perhaps a touch sweet at times, but good enough. Not a standout or anything
