Tonic the hedgehog... Pours a slightly hazy almost transparent red
raspberry pour with a minimal soapy white head... Aroma of light
juniper gun aromatics blended with earthy raspberries and
strawberries... Flavors are more if the same with actually some nice
light carbonation coming through. easily my favorite of the day.

From notes. First reviewed 9/20/2011. Served on tap in a tasting glass at Zwanze Day at West Lakeview.
Tonic the Hedgehog has a peach grapefruit hue to it with a soft effervescence. A bubbly white head retains fairly well but does not leave much lace.
The aroma jumps out of the glass and makes me pay attention. Light pale malt, some peach, and a ton of vivacious raspberries. If anything, the aroma tells me it will be sweet, but I have not had anything with an aroma like this.
The flavor is full, fresh, and fruity. There is a light bready malt that brings with it a soft sweetness, which carries into the fruit flavors nicely. Sweet peach and tart raspberry complement each other well before a light bitter tonic finish.
Like a good sour, the fruit in this one creates a nice level of salivation, which amplifies the effect of each flavor on the tongue. The start is smooth and has a nice sweetness to it, while the finish is more dry.
This beer was one of my surprise favorites from Zwanze Day. The aroma and flavor really blew me away. I would be intrigued to know how exactly this beer was made. drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 17, 2011
draft at zwanze 11 at wlv. pours murky red off white head nose of gin,

On tap at Zwanze Day 2011 Chicago. Poured a near clear ruby amber red with a pinkish head that dissipates quickly to the edges and has visible carbonation. Aroma had notes of quinine and tart fruit with a bit of backing funk. Flavor was full of raspberries that were slightly tart backed by tonic and a hint of funk. Heavy carbonation on the tongue. A bit odd but not bad. NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Draft at Zwanze Day WLV. Pours a nice pinkish red, minimal foam head. The nose is really cool, lots of raspberry, soft, grapefruit rind and light juniper notes. Really well incorporated Brett aromatics as well to tie it together. On tasting, strong tartness that is very pleasant and balances the gin component and sharp bitterness overall that really works. The more I drink of this, the better it gets. Great raspberry notes and just a really cool beer. Really enjoyed.

On tap at WLV for Zwanze day! Such a cool treat of a unique ber. Pour was hazy rose with a hint of chestnut and soapy white head. Nose was sweet dried raspberries and strawberries with some tonic tang. Taste is similar with lots of tonic on the palate. Fun beer with an initial tang but void of vinigar/heartburn-inducing sourness so common. Grateful for the chance to try! TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - SEP 18, 2011
2 drafts on tap at Zwanze Day - WLV (Chicago, IL). A strange blend by Mr. John Laffler. Pours a reddish copper, ruby glow with a frothy whitish head, dies to a film and laces ok. Aromas are tart sour raspberries, some fruit, citrus, and limes. Lots of lemons and limes. Touches of straw, bread, lactic acid. Juniper, don’t get the quinine. Some bretty funk and wet oak. Initial is sweeter, some rich raspberry pulp mixes with lemons, some bubbly carbonation, Tonic, subtle Gin, oranges, sweeter bread and biscuits. Lingering funk, oak, vanillin, and more brett, straw. Fruity, a bit sweet. With strawberries and raspberries, a touch sweet, lingering acidity and wet funk, Juniper and Quinine, brett, touches of cheese linger in the backend. Some oak, bread. Lots of lingering lactic acid and brett dry and sour up that sweeter pulpy up front. Touches of limes, carbonation is lively. A very interesting beer. Strange, yet an interesting blend. As a huge Gin and Tonic fan, I like some of the blend elements and how they play. But I’d take regular old Scarlett any old day. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 17, 2011
draft... bright pink with a light head... the nose is very strong, tons of gin, smells like a gin and tonic, a bit to strong for me... the taste is much lighter on the gin than I thought which is a great thing but a still a light gin backbone, tastes like a grapefruit sparkling water, a bit thin and carbonated, a nice novelty to try but you can’t drink much of this
