Nice roast and a bit of chocolate. Fairly dry, roasty finish. Medium body. A bit acrid in the finish.

Draft at Clybourn. Pours a murky brown with a tan head. Nose is muddy, some yeast esters and cocoa, dark fruit. Black malt. On tasting, moderate bitterness, thin body. More cocoa and black malt. Seems muddled and odd. Just kind of lost overall. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - DEC 9, 2012
Sampler Flight pour on tap at the Clybourn brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer dark pour, blackish brown middle, some good darkness with glowing copper brown edges, light shines through a bit. A frothy tannis head atop remains as a firm film, laces ok. Aromas are gentle cocoa and biscuits, some dry toast, some caramel and biscuits. Gentle dryness, kiss of cocoa, and toffee. Faint waft of dark fruit, more mellow aromas with some cocoa pebbles. Initial is roasty and dry, a lighter end of the fold in body for a porter, this beer preaches richer dryness, bigger earthy hop, florals and pine mix with bigger bakers chocolate, dryness, roast, toast up front. Middle shows some gentle sweetness but really an odd dry feeling persists throughout. A firm hopping, roast, and bitter bakers chocolate really sets the tone throughout. Backend is bitter, cocoa, dryness. Toast, really dry and bitter backend that really distracts me from a lot else about the beer. Lighter body, quite drinkable once you become accustomed to the brew. Some more cocoa elements, biscuits come in the middle once I get used to it but quite dry and bitter throughout. I enjoyed it and like Porters that take this route, but overall, it can be a bit distracting. drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 7, 2012
