On tap at Clybourn brewpub. Pours cloudy dark blonde. Flavor is a bit too bitter with little depth, spice, or sweetness to balance it. Some yeasty earthy flavors but you have to struggle to find them. A bit of a miss from a brewery that usually hits their Belgian styles right on the head.
Pours clear gold foamy white head. Aroma had floral touch soapy, peppery yeast. Flavors are sweet grain honey, spicy yeast profile floral. Bit sticky mouthfeel, firm bitterness balances the whole thing nicely. Somewhat sweet finish but bitterness is clean and drying. On tap @ Goose Island Clybourn with Erica on 10/18/2012. In town for Jen’s and Mark’s engagement party. Light amber/dark gold pour with a sizable white head. Light body with notes of lemon zest. Flight pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer golden hue, near transparent with some orange glow. Loose but big offwhite head atop, sticks around as a layer, laces small. Aromas are bready malts, green apples, some dough. Gentle spice, earth hops, gentle yeastiness grows. Lemons, pear, gentle melon. Firm yeast and hopping on the nose. Initial is medium bodied, a bit sweeter than anticipated. Apples, lemon, dough and bready malts. Straw, dough, cereal grains. A touch of dryness, middle preaches sweeter dough and fruit, coolness, earthy hops, touch of menthol, spice and yeast. Backend is a touch more dry, cool and spicy yeast elements. Apples, green apples, touches of pear, gentle dryness, peppery, gentle warmth, firm dry earthy hops. Overall, as I settle into it, it’s more enjoyable, some of the sweeter girthy jabs fall off. Draft at Clybourn. Pours a nice looking gold, light hazy with a persistent white head. The nose is quite fruity, tropical notes with a white pepper balance. Light pilsner malt as well. Some alcohol. The carbonation is quite low for the style. On tasting, clean and fresh with some tart notes but it is a bit heavy on the palate overall due to the abv and reduced carbonation. Decent. Fruity. UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Tap at GI Clybourn. Bright orange yellow pour. White head. Apricot and yeast aroma. Nice hop bite. Good stuff.
