Candied malt aroma, cloudy copper, medium vanilla head. Well roasted malt flavour, nutty too, very pleasant bitterness. Pretty good beer. Oakes (17684) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 8, 2003

Reddish dark brown; caramel nose w/ wood, toffee; palate is a little bit watery; light bread crust & toffee in there as well.
Still my favorite in the lineup. Love the deep brown color. Wish the nose was bigger. Great German malt flavor that goes into the finish. The hops don't get in the way but there's plenty of bitter. Brodie (540) - Boone, North Carolina, USA - JAN 12, 2003
Tempe, AZ. Cloudy dark brown color, decent head. Some malt and chocolate in the aroma. Malty flavor, but some weak vomit-like off-flavor, maybe from the yeast, that made this beer unenjoyable. Disappointing light mouthfeel. Not good. stephen (308) - California, USA - DEC 6, 2002
Pretty good. Ranks up with the Marzen. Rediish brown with frothy head that stuck around. Slightly sweet, clean with decent bitterness for the style. Some nutty and tiny hoppy notes cam through as I exhaled after each sip.

By far the best Gordon Biersch beer I have ever had. (Draught-GBPA) It tastes as good as the photo looks. Moderately malty and lightly hoppy in aroma. Creamy, off-white head that mostly diminishes. Reddish brown body (like the photo). Moderately sweet in flavor, with a solid, moderate hop bitterness. A winner. jazz88 (2679) - San Francisco, California, USA - OCT 30, 2002
Tap in Palo Alto. Dark amber/brown. Nice malt and hop aroma. Good body. It’s smooth but also leaves a chalky and malty aftertaste. hopscotch (11104) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2002
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2006 Draft... The aroma was slightly sweet and spicy. Something like cinamon. Can’t place it. Also, soapy water in the nose. Maybe they had just washed the glass. Clear, dark mohogany. Foamy, big, off-white head. Malty, but not sweet. Well balanced. A touch fruity. Slightly thin, watery mouthfeel. Lively carbonation. Finishes clean and dry. Very good beer. The restaurant in DC needs to rinse their glasses better. Dish soap ruins what is otherwise a very nice nose. Hoss (607) - Florida, USA - SEP 9, 2002
A quality brew, would like more character, a little more hop than a german version but still a nice session brew. TheBeerCollector (633) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - AUG 26, 2002
Re-rate: I tried this one again and was not as impressed this time around. The more quality beers I try, the more discriminating my palate becomes.
