Tempe, AZ. Cloudy dark brown color, decent head. Some malt and chocolate in the aroma. Malty flavor, but some weak vomit-like off-flavor, maybe from the yeast, that made this beer unenjoyable. Disappointing light mouthfeel. Not good. Oakes (19409) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 8, 2003
Tasted at Oakville, but it was brewed at Whitbyjoeycapps (1468) - Waterdown, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 5, 2003
Reddish dark brown; caramel nose w/ wood, toffee; palate is a little bit watery; light bread crust & toffee in there as well.
Sampled at the Oakville location. Chestnut brown. Tan head. Aroma of caramel, honey, & bread. Thin-medium body. Some bread-like dark malt flavours. Moderately hoppy finish w/ hint of alcohol. Overall, however, flavours are a little watery & bland. jercraigs (11071) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 28, 2003
Draft. Oakville Darker amber, more head than the rest. Slightly tan head, with hints or roasted flavour. Better mouthfeel than the rest, but a bit on the thin side. This and their Hefeweizen were the best offerings I thought. duff (5486) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUN 25, 2004

Biersch, Seattle. Pretty typical dunkel actually, failry authentic German style. Doughy, caramel and slightly toasty flavours. This is OK.
Dark wheat flavors, a bit of caramel roastiness, toasted maltiness, hazelnuts and just a bit of toffee. Very tame, and too light in body. BückDich (5477) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 9, 2004
Sampled draught at Gordon Biersch, Las Vegasmotelpogo (8031) - Plzen, CZECH REPUBLIC - JAN 26, 2005
Hazy mahogany with average head & lacing. Nose of celery & cabbage, loads of DMS. Tastes lightly sweet with notes of dark chocolate & dark fruits. Oily creamy finish but balanced.
on tap at gordon biersch in seattle. purple brown. lightly nutty, some golden syrup sweetness, pretty similar to an average german dunkel Wakie (612) - Centreville, Virginia, USA - FEB 13, 2005
A bit on the syrupy side. But it promises a lot more than it delivers. Like a thickened version of the marzen. whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 25, 2005
Draught, Atlanta location. Clear red-copper body with mild carbonation and a creamy off-white head. Appearance does not square with the "unfiltered" claim on the menu but I guess it could have settled. Munich malt aroma with dark bread crusts and black tea plus caramel. Flavor has more tea qualities and a prominent scorched sweet element like over-baked cookies. Instantly cloying and over-satiating. Insipid beer aimed at a beer clown’s palate.
