full, brown body with an almond colored head. fair amount of lacing left. nutty, caramel nose. malty flavor with caramel, some roasted-ness and a touch of licorice. slight, slight bitter finish. overall, fairly smooth.
Pours a nice brown color...looks quite good. Lacing is very good. Aroma is sweet and malt with some light burnt/roasted notes. Flavor is sweet and roasted. Body is thin but not watery. The best of the GB beers that I tried at the brewpub. omnivore (270) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 30, 2004

on tap @ San Diego. As nice as that head looks on the beer in the picture that wasn’t how mine was served. Mine had almost no head but still looked appetizing. I found it somewhat sweet of chocolate and of malt. Maybe it was just me but i tasted as if some orange and tea was there as well.?.?. The next few days i kept thinking how much i wanted another glass of this but i have’nt gone back yet. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - OCT 11, 2005
On tap at the Atlanta location. copper/warm brown. beautiful lingering swirl of lace. malty toasty scent. supposedly unfiltered, but I see no haze. wonderful butteriness.

On tap at the downtown Atlanta location. Pours a dark copper with a creamy, frothy thick white head. Aroma has hints of toffee, a smidgen of chocolate and a back end of citrus. Flavor is very pronounced with some caramel, chocolate, and a bit of citrusy hoppiness. The back end is dominated by a teriyaki-like smokiness that is interesting and enjoyable. Somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Very decent. OhioDad (2492) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - JAN 20, 2006
Draft at the brewpub Columbus, Ohio - Pours dark brown with a creamy offwhite head that stays pretty well and laces some,.. Aroma is toffee, chocolate, and a bit of brown sugar. Flavor is a nice blend of toffee, caramel, chocolate, and a touch of roasted malt. Palate is medium bodied smooth without a great deal of carbonation. Nice beer. On tap @ Gordon Biersch Mission Valley. Pored a very dark hazy copper color. Nose is mostly of malts....some dark fruit as well. I picked up a nice hint of cherries on the tounge. A very nice Dunkle. thebaldwizard (1365) - Ohio, USA - JUL 13, 2006
This is a dark brown beer with a soft white head. It has a definite organic smell--kinda grassy. The taste is also grassy with some nuts mixed in there. This is the best beer available at Gordon Biersch in my opinion, but there are definitely better brews out there." StefanSD (2468) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - NOV 3, 2014
750ml bottle with a swingtop. Pours a slightly hazy roan brown color with a bif foamy beige head that has good retention. The aroma is soft with sweetened malts and grains. The taste is more sweetened grains, nuts and some cola notes. The palate is a bit lighter than I prefer and the carbonation is lively. Finished medium in duration and dry. Overall: Decent dunkel
