UPDATED: NOV 22, 2004 Refreshingly smooth lager that also brings a nice character and flavor with it. Maybe not the most exciting lager I’ve ever tried but certainly much more than adequate. Aurelius (5425) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 27, 2002
UPDATED: MAR 23, 2004 (Atlanta) Grainy and worty aroma. Ruddy, deep tea color without a whole lot of head. Not too hoppy. Flavor was slightly tart, leaning towards the bready. Re-rated, 3/22/04 Miami: Fruity and somewhat musty malt aroma similar to what I associate with Kolsch. Good mahogany brew, good house glassware. Fairly sweet, somewhat tart, medium bittering - which is a combination of hops and malt, light diacetyls and caramel, very light phenols. Good mouthfeel and body, light astringency. stephen (308) - California, USA - DEC 6, 2002
Pretty good. Ranks up with the Marzen. Rediish brown with frothy head that stuck around. Slightly sweet, clean with decent bitterness for the style. Some nutty and tiny hoppy notes cam through as I exhaled after each sip. hopdog (12816) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 26, 2004
On tap in Hawaii. Dark brown in color with an averaged sized tan head. Nutty, roasted and malty smells and tastes. This was my 1st Dunkel style and it wasn’t that bad (I liked it more than other Gordon Biersch Beers). bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUN 14, 2004
(Draught) Pours a dark amber color with an average sized off-white head. Rich caramel and malt aroma. Roasted malt and caramel flavor.

(Draft: Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. in San Diego, CA) Decent enough and enjoyable, I usually order 1 Dunkles each time I go to Gordon Biersch (where the meatloaf rocks BTW!); This medium bodied brew has a toasty, malty flavor as the main focus; It’s moderately sweet, lightly hoppy, mildly bitter, with a slight sourness toward the finish; Not much aroma, being just vaguely malty; Mahogany color; Tan head has average size on the pour, but fades to a thin sheen within a few minutes; Lots of interesting spiderweb lacing is left on the glass omhper (25349) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - OCT 7, 2004
Sampled draught at Gordon Biersch, Burbank.bb (9657) - Alamo, California, USA - JUL 30, 2014
Nut brown, clear. Roasty and nutty, light bodied. Medium sweet with bitterish, lightly grassy finish.
Bottle. 25th Anniversary. Copper beer with a tan head. Nutty and caramel aroma with light toffee and light roast. Caramel and light spice flavor. Medium bodied. Caramel and light spice lingers. Oristo (67) - Orinda, California, USA - JAN 26, 2003
Still my favorite in the lineup. Love the deep brown color. Wish the nose was bigger. Great German malt flavor that goes into the finish. The hops don't get in the way but there's plenty of bitter. bitter (1136) - Henderson, Nevada, USA - MAR 11, 2004
on tap GB: good looking beer, dark brown with large tan head in a nice GB glass. malt nose, mostly roasted malt character. pretty good all around dunkles, only had about 3 of this style so not much to compare to.
