This mahogany colored dunkel is small headed and emanates a feint malt aroma. Bland, nondistinct flavoring drags this beer down--too bad as it appears flavorful. Nonetheless, this is a smooth brew, with exceptional refreshment potential--great to drink cold. Ernest (7661) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 11, 2002
Draught. Medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted light bread,
nutty, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of plum and orange.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is
lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Light to medium body,
watery texture, soft carbonation. BennyTicklez (621) - USA - JAN 26, 2005
Pours brownish/ purple. Tiny head. No outstanding aroma or flavor going on. Light malt. No harsh flavors. Drinkable, but not overly enjoyable. frankR (149) - Livermore, California, USA - FEB 6, 2005
Dry, pale and rather flavorless at Gordon Biersch San Jose. I think their Marzen is better. piscator34 (2515) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - JUN 19, 2006
On tap at the Las Vegas location. Very dark amber (almost brown) in colour with medium carbonation. Caramel-toffee sweetness on the nose, with a bit of toasted malt. More toasted malt and toffee in the mouth as well, along with a bit of acidity and roasted nuts. A bit too light bodied, but overal it’s a solid impression of the style. The best of their beers that I sampled.

dark brown, big tan head, slight floral hop aroma, rich malt flavor, good dose of chocolate malt, touch of bitterness only after it warms, too one dimensional
Source: wild wing
more complexity, notes of toasted malt
Words: Las Vegas
toasted malt aroma, good rich chocolate flavor with perfect sweetness and the light character of the wheat, a benchmark dunkle as would be expected from the controlled GB brewery
Aroma: 5/10; Appearance: 6/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 5/10; Overall: 13/20
The score was calculated based upon the notes and an old scoring system.
Pours dark amber, almost cola colored. Nose is straw-like, typical lager aroma. Taste is sweet and quite cola-like. Thin bodied. Soft, but lively carbonation. Decent brew. Not remarkable. Not bad at all. Standard dark lager.

Completely unimpressive. Ok flavor, but thin. Sweet opening a little cloying with a little lemony citrous middle , finish a little bitter. Gordon Biersch seems to worry more about making pretty beers than tasty beers. Drjohnrock (761) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 10, 2007
Draft sampler at Columbus brewpub. Sweet malty aroma, "light in texture"--no shit, thin malty flavor with some hop tang at the end. AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - JUN 2, 2002
Didn’t like the aftertaste. Otherwise moderately good. Dunkles? You can still see light shining through...
