COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once reserved for Bavarian royalty for its light sparkling quality, Hefeweizen is considerably more democratic today. In fact, at Gordon Biersch we've brewed a special batch of our Hefeweizen to serve our guests throughout July and August! Hundreds of years ago in Germany, wheat beers were considered "breakfast" or "after church" beers, a testament to their light refreshing flavor and a tradition of drinking them on weekend afternoon. We invite you to enjoy our Hefeweizen any day of the week this summer along with our special summer menu.

On tap at their D.C. location. I wish that they bottled this. It is a really good example of a Hefeweizen - nice white head on top of a very hazy wheat yellow. The aroma is a very memorable banana, a little citrus/lemony hint, and some mild spiciness. The taste is a little understated and weak. The bananas provide a very slight sweetness with a little sour at the end - maybe the yeast is finally coming through. The body is medium, lively, but very thin - almost macro-brew thin. It is a shame that this brew isn’t just a little thicker.
This was a very good beer for a Saturday afternoon lunch on a hot and humid day. If you like hefe’s, then you should give this one a try for lunch. Its not an "after dinner" beer, but it would be exceptional while grilling on a hot day. If only they bottled this.

The pour of Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen is hazy orange and its head dissipates quickly for a wheat beer. The aroma of ripe bananas greets the nose, while citrus and clove are relatively muted for the style. After the bready, grainy malt attack, the smooth mid-palate unfolds its banana, citrus, and clove notes before the short and crisp finish. This brew is easy to drink and although relatively simple, it’s not a bad introduction to the hefeweizen style.

Draught at GBs in Xin Yi. Aroma: floral, Parma violets. Appearance: cloudy, rich gold. 2-3 mm. white head. Palate: full-bodied and oily, soft carbonation; long, sweet finish. Taste: well-balanced - heavily sweet and pleasantly bitter. One is enough, though good nonetheless.

Sample on tap @ the brew house restaurant in Baltimore, MD. Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a foamy white head. Crisp clean refreshing. Nice banana and clove flavors. Good for the style but not the best. Enjoyable.

Draught at SJ airport. Nose is mostly clove but rather restrained. Slight fruity esters. Orange-ish gold and hazy with moderate white head. Fruity and slightly cardboard flavor - clean line issue at the airport? Not really any Hefe aspects here.

Hazy yellow with a foamy white head. Light yeasty nose with some spice notes. Light beer with a thin clove, banana and water taste. Thin generic hefe.

5.4%ABV. Hefeweizen. Tapped out light amber. 8ºSRM. Nose has banana and bubble gum aromas. Sweet and ester-like with the aroma of just over-ripe fruit. Mouthfeel is carbonated. There is some pronounced carbonation which on first impression is soda-like, then opens up to the grain palate which is pale to lightly toasted malt. Full-bodied and reminiscent of a malted milkshake or malted candy. "Horlicks" for those in the know. Also has that formic acid tang that always reminds me of the acrid aroma you get when you crush red ants’ most commonly described as phenolic. You get this in the back of the throat and in the back of the tongue. No hops that you can really taste. Finish is lager-like and beery and not entire unpleasant, especially if this well-endowed brew is sitting next to a pork knuckle. A very very creditable Hefe. I actually liked this one...

Tap @ Gordon Biersch, Taipei. Cloudy yellow brown, reasonable head. Spicy wheat aroma. Big banana clove flavour. Smooth with sweet aftertaste. Decent enough hefe but lacking fizz.

6/6 on a flight at the Glendale location. Hazy straw colour, lingering white head. Aromas of orange, unripe banana, and smoked meat. Flavors of oatmeal with banana and nutmeg. Hints of orange, apple, and kandi. Dry finish. Well made, very good hefe.
