Let’s hear it for airport beers. There are certainly many worse out there. This hefe was a bit on the darker golden side for the style, and a bit maltier than many. Felt heavy instead of refreshing. Some banana and clove, but a bit of a sharp wheat and slight pepper vibe. Not bad, but I liked the pilsner much better.
Cloudy yellow pour, white head. Aroma is zesty citrus and wheat. Flavor is lots of citrus and tart. Luneylane (174) - Taipei City, TAIWAN - MAR 9, 2017
Draught at GBs in Xin Yi. Aroma: floral, Parma violets. Appearance: cloudy, rich gold. 2-3 mm. white head. Palate: full-bodied and oily, soft carbonation; long, sweet finish. Taste: well-balanced - heavily sweet and pleasantly bitter. One is enough, though good nonetheless. jsporrer (982) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 12, 2016
Sample on tap @ the brew house restaurant in Baltimore, MD. Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a foamy white head. Crisp clean refreshing. Nice banana and clove flavors. Good for the style but not the best. Enjoyable. Zymurgeist2 (2179) - Redwood City, California, USA - AUG 18, 2016
Draught at SJ airport. Nose is mostly clove but rather restrained. Slight fruity esters. Orange-ish gold and hazy with moderate white head. Fruity and slightly cardboard flavor - clean line issue at the airport? Not really any Hefe aspects here. jsquire (4421) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - JUN 10, 2016
Hazy yellow with a foamy white head. Light yeasty nose with some spice notes. Light beer with a thin clove, banana and water taste. Thin generic hefe.
drjoeng (1230) - SINGAPORE - APR 18, 2016
Tapped out light amber. 8ºSRM.
Nose has banana and bubble gum aromas. Sweet and ester-like with the aroma of just over-ripe fruit.
Mouthfeel is carbonated. There is some pronounced carbonation which on first impression is soda-like, then opens up to the grain palate which is pale to lightly toasted malt. Full-bodied and reminiscent of a malted milkshake or malted candy. "Horlicks" for those in the know. Also has that formic acid tang that always reminds me of the acrid aroma you get when you crush red ants’ most commonly described as phenolic. You get this in the back of the throat and in the back of the tongue. No hops that you can really taste.
Finish is lager-like and beery and not entire unpleasant, especially if this well-endowed brew is sitting next to a pork knuckle.
A very very creditable Hefe. I actually liked this one... JohnRMurdoch (4828) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - MAR 23, 2016
Tap @ Gordon Biersch, Taipei. Cloudy yellow brown, reasonable head. Spicy wheat aroma. Big banana clove flavour. Smooth with sweet aftertaste. Decent enough hefe but lacking fizz. Arthree (48) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 17, 2016
6/6 on a flight at the Glendale location. Hazy straw colour, lingering white head. Aromas of orange, unripe banana, and smoked meat. Flavors of oatmeal with banana and nutmeg. Hints of orange, apple, and kandi. Dry finish. Well made, very good hefe. asheft (3062) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 15, 2016
[on tap at Gordon Biersch, DTW airport]
Spicy phenolic clove and pepper aroma with some faint banana and base malt hiding in the background. Cloudy orange-amber under a persistent off-white, lacy blanket. Flavour begins with clove, but quickly becomes clovey bubblegum and eventually is a smooth banana. Bitterness is perceptible, but only just. There is a faint, candy (like those red, homemade candy lollipops) note in the background with the base malt and moderate wheat flavour. The wheat does also provide a little acidic brightness. Medium light body, medium carbonation, begins smooth and ends crisp. chinchill (4929) - South Carolina, USA - DEC 19, 2015
On tap at the Atlanta brewpub. Not a favored style.
Look: hazy golden body with an off-white head.
Aroma: very fruity with a lot of citrus, some banana and a hint of yeast.
Flavor: follows the aroma. More citrus and less clove than average for style.
Mouthfeel: light-medium body and medium+ carbonation.
Overall: fruity hefe.
