Biersch, Downtown Seattle (ABV 4.3%/21 IBU)
Dark nut brown color, small beige head. Caramel, some coffee and chocolate in the nose. Light-bodied. Active carbonation. Sweetish with toasty maltyness and some coffee. Stylish although unexciting Schwarzbier.
Sample. Dark brown with big tan head. Flavour is roasted malt, coffee and dry. brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - DEC 31, 2014
On tap @ Gordon Biersch San Jose. Dark brown color with a khaki head and some reddish highlights. A strong roasted malt note and some cola sweetness. Kind of ashy and a bit of a chocolate note. Maybe some hot cocoa mix. A bit of toasted grain to it, too. The flavor is lightly bitter and roasty. Toasted nuts, some grass, earth, and a bunch of chocolate. Good toffee and toasted bread sweetness. Not bad, I prefer it more roasty though.
